Evening everyone, just a quick question here....
A few weeks ago I had some brake work done and my mechanic did some
other minor things for me which resulted in a car that runs better,
stops much better, etc.
So after fixing my electrical issues by just disconnecting the
battery completely I decided today to run over to my storage unit
take my car out and run it by the gas station to fill the tank which
was sitting dangerously low.
Five minutes down the road and half way to the gas station my friend
who was along for the ride was the first to notice a light white
smoke coming from the front of the dash, primarily through the
defroster vent. So I pull over real quick and throw open the hood and
find that the smoke is coming from the PCV Valve on the engine valve
cover.
Previously there had been a rubber grommet, with a short 15-18" hose
through which the gases passed through and presumably lower to the
ground and out of harms way.
Currently the valve is there in the valve cover, but there is no hose
attached to it. I've been looking in my books and noticed that on
some models there was a road draft tube system similar to what was
previously employed on my comet. And on other model cars there was a
hose that ran from the pcv valve back into the combustion process
athrough the carb plate or something along those lines.
I had looked into this previously because I didn't think it was
proper to have it set up without a valve beforeeeeeee, but since it
ran well I wasn't going to mess with it at the time. Now however
anytime the engine warms up I get a nice plume of exhaust gases
entering into my car, presumably through the many MANY little holes
and what not in my rust bucket.
...so now that I've wrote a short novel, anyone have any ideas of how
to go about fixing this problem? I've found it to be quite
*exhausting*
Thanks in advance to anyone who's taken the time to read this!
