FSX will not let me save an edited cfg file when I add-on a texture...for example a new texture to the default 737-800 notepad tells me it cannot create or find the filename or the path is invalid anyone know the cause?

Can`t recall what its called, but where it says 'save as', change it to the bottom most option and save to the desktop.  Delete the original (after making a backup), then cut and paste the one from the desktop to the folder.

Hi,

Can you be a bit more precise?

You should just be able to simply 'save' any edited file. Have you got your 'cfg' files to open as a notepad file? (this is the easiest way to do things)

It's also a good (essential) idea to
BACKUP
- copy & paste your existing files before editing in case you make a doodoo when editing. It will paste in as 'copy of ******.cfg)

If they won't just save - take a look at your settings & file protection - for example make sure they are not read only (right click/properties)

Think Global. It's the world we live in.

Cut the caps please. But, you have to save the file to your desktop, backup the original, then put the new .cfg in the folder.

That doesn't answer the question as to why it doesn't allow for saving when edited.  What is the difference between xp and vista regarding this?

Vista just has a bag load of security, even its security has security.  So you have to work around some things, doesn`t mean its secure though  Wink

I believe that Vista treats CFG files as protected system files. Try Ashar's suggestion here --> http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1193114568

Just right click the Flight Simulator 9 and change all the security levels to Allow for your username

Naturally you would do this to the FSX root directory folder.
