Another dark horse in the paddock – it’s FROSTY, winner of Judge’s Choice Slotback with this fine effort:

...

Judge Frosty’s in the house with a cool, mellow comp for us this week.  It’s….

“WATER”

...

Frosty says:

" Some people like the flight simulator water, others hate it. The spray effects that flight simulator has to offer are quite spectacular so try and capture some 'action' in your shot! I am looking for a very realistic shot which not only captures the beauty of the water but displays the beauty of aviation too. The shot is perfect as long as it includes some water!."

THIS WEEK'S RULES

1. There can be payware or freeware in the shots, FS any version. Editing is allowed but no composites, as only a few people can do them and it's hard to compete with a composite!

2. Aircraft are still allowed though the screenshot must show WATER.

3. You nominate one shot only, as a thumbnail of about 5 kb. IT CAN BE AN OLD SHOT if you don’t have time to create something especially for the comp, though original entries are encouraged….  Post it in this thread, below.
DEADLINE for submission of shots is 8 PM GMT on SATURDAY.

The judge will choose which shot is best and tell Krigl on Saturday or Sunday…
DEADLINE FOR JUDGE TO INFORM KRIGL: 8 PM GMT SUNDAY
The winner will be announced Sunday evening.

THE WINNER IS THE NEXT JUDGE!

And, your winning shot goes into the Personal Portfolios!

...

4. The winner should decide on the next competition, and, by MONDAY NIGHT 8:00 GMT, send KRIGL one pic plus a short text to describe the competition and what they are looking for. Also send another couple of your best shots.

We will start the new competition on Monday night, so people have 5 evenings to produce their entries.

5. This is for fun, so just post whatever seems to you to fit the rules. In the spirit of StudioV, we're all aviation and aviation screenie fans, and friends, and so just about everything goes. Rules are secondary, and no questions needed.

It might be an idea to check out our Judge's work, see what he likes....

...

TWO 'IMPORTANT' NOTES

A. The main point is that you get to be the judge – but the winning shot will also extend your portfolio….

B. If people don’t meet the dead-lines, don’t be surprised if Krigl makes the choices or even the competition for you. Studio V must ‘run on time’….  Sorry to be evil about this but it’s for the greater good, as it were.

...

Time to get wet and wild!

Quick pointer Frosty: FS9 users are at an obvious disadvantage to FSXers, as already pointed out twice.

Nonetheless, I will make my own humble attempt, but I expect it to be trumped by FSX users. My goal is to make that minimal, or maybe on par if I do a good job. Cool

FS9 users shouldn't be at a disadvantage if they have the right addons.

No entry here ....... FSX users would be at a disadvantage  Grin Grin

No excuses for FS9 users though, especially those with Flight environment.... those without there's plenty of water fixes out there for free.

Spot on Eno.... water, along with terrain is one of the key things which brings interest/complexity/beauty to screenshots... I think it's a great topic, and there are plenty of good water packages for FS9. FSX water can look terrible from some angles/altitudes too, particularly from high up with the light shining off, it looks like plastic wrap.... !!

If it will make you feel better, I entered the bi-weekly contest for the first time several weeks ago. My entry made the finals. It was an FS9 shot Cheesy

Yes but this one capitalises on the MAJOR advance from FS9 to FSX, water and reflections.

Very nice entry, Jack!

Goes to show that you don't need FSX for a great water shot Roll Eyes

Where in real life have you seen black water with golden reflections? Sorry to say Jack, but the water in that shot really ruins it IMO Roll Eyes Undecided

With the exception of the AC, terrain, sky and angle, I dont care much for the water either (except the fact that I found the black transition into the blueish-turquoise quite interesting, which is why I chose to enter this particular shot).  Wink

NICE MAB!
I would've liked to see that Cessna in it though... but i still liek that reflection it gives a good vibe! Too bad the water is really wavy instead of flatter like FS2004 it would've given off a better reflection but it's still really good

Now this i nice!

It's funny how everybody keeps saying that the FSX shots have the advantage, but in general, I don't think that the water looks better in FSX, only in close-in shots do the extra reflections works well, in 'bigger' shots, I feel that the water is actually worse than what you can do with some of the FS9 add-ons. Still, some very nice entries so far.
