I downloaded this "FSX Boeing 737-800 Multi Textures Package (Updated)". from the FSX civil Jets page, 3rd download from the top.

I then followed the instructions in the read me. I opened my FSX aircraft folder, opened the b737-800 folder, I then copied all the 6 texture files within the download to the FSX b737-800 folder.

I deleted the aircraft.cfg file in the FSX b737-800 and copied the aircraft.cgf from the download back into my FSX b737-800 folder.

Closed all programs, booted FSX and what did I find?

I did not find the texture updates, infact I cannot see my 737-800 range at all, not even 1. I then deleted the entire folder and restored the original b737-800 to get things back to normal.

Anyone got thsi file to work?
Am I doing something wrong?

Thanking helper in advance!!

Well, it's cause you deleted the entire aircraft.cfg...You're meant to keep the original and just add those extra lines from the read-me into the aircrafts original .cfg...If you haven't emptied out your Recycle Bin, right click the file and hit restore...If you already have, wait for someone who knows more about FSX to come by and tell you where it can be found on the two DVD's... Yes I did delete the aircraft.cfg file because the readme said I had to do so as the download contained a whole new aircraft.cfg file that could be added into the b737-800 aircraft folder. Ofcourse this new cfg file contains all the lines needed.

I did make a back up of my original aircraft.cfg and dont need to browse the.cab files for it.

I did restore my original files and all is well, I just cant understand why this file does not work for me when I follow the read me.

I just downloaded this file to check it out. I've seen this problem before with repaints by the same developer. I suspect the new Aircraft.cfg was created in Rich Text Format in MS Word before saving in standard TXT format. This adds text that you don't need. Although it should still work "as is" I suggest removing this text. This is not difficult.

Open the new Aircraft.cfg in Notepad & first delete everything at the top of the CFG that I've marked in Bold type below.

{\rtf1\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang2057{\fonttbl{\f0\fnil\fcharset0 Courier New;}{\f1\fswiss\fcharset0 Arial;}}
{\*\generator Msftedit 5.41.21.2507;}\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs20
[fltsim.0]\par
title=Boeing 737-800 Paint1\par
sim=Boeing737-800\par
model=\par
panel=\par
sound=\par
texture=1\par
kb_checklists=Boeing737-800_check\par
kb_reference=Boeing737-800_ref\par
atc_id=N737W\par
atc_airline=Boeing\par
atc_flight_number=\par
ui_manufacturer="Boeing"\par
ui_type="737-800"\par
ui_variation="Boeing livery"\par
ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner"\par
ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation"\par
description="One should hardly be surprised that the world's most prolific manufacturer of commercial aircraft is also the producer of the world's most popular jetliner. The 737 became the best-selling commercial jetliner worldwide when orders for it hit 1,831 in June 1987 (surpassing Boeing's own 727 as the previous champ). However, it wasn't always that way\\s in the first few years of production, there were so few orders that Boeing considered canceling the program. They didn't, and the airplane has more than proven itself in over three decades of service."\par
\par

Now click Edit/Replace. In the 'Find what' box type \par
Leave the 'Replace with' box empty & click 'Replace All'. This will delete all instances of \par in the CFG.
Finally exit Notepad saving changes when prompted.

Now try it. Please back up the original Aircraft.cfg first.

PS. Scroll right down to the bottom of the CFG & delete this:

Thanx Hagar, I did rid of the un-needed text within the authors aircraft.cfg then stuck it into the b737-800 folder.

Still didint work, I then realised there seems to be a problem with the aircraft.cfg

I then followed the old way, just took the fltsim script withing this aircraft cfg and edited them into the original FSX b737-800 aircraft.cfg and...

WOALLA

it worked, thanx to both Hagas and Ashar for you help, both comments lead to a solution.

Much appreciated.
