...HAPPENED!!!! WOOT!!! Ok sorry, I'm not trying to be a smart alec or anything, but when I was told they weren't doing JATO's anymore I was heartbroken, but the Blue Angels came through and showed us how it's done. I had a bad spot on the flight line for pictures but here's my attempt...
Not as spectacular or dazzeling as the night show would offer, but here at KBay they didnt do a night show so I'll take what I can get

Awesome. It's amazing when they level off at the after the JATO takeoff; all your pens and M&M's had better be strapped down.

I could almost hear the roar of the rockets as I look at these.

It's certainly a sight to see!
I'd never believed that a C-130 could climb that fast if I hadn't seen it myself

You must have a smudge on the camera!
Cool stuff, so let me get this straight, a C-130 takes off powered by rockets!

Jet Assisted Take Off, they only use it for short runways, but it is soooo cool, the C-130 rolls down the runway building speed, then just before it rotates, they fire the rockets and they take off at a ridiculous angle, I forgot how high they go before leveling off but it's a good 45 second burn, give or take a few seconds.
As for the smudge, probly is, that camera has been through Iraq, around the world twice, and still takes shots haha, getting a new camera for christmas, so my pics will be better lol.

Glad you enjoyed it. I still think it should be RATO - Rocket Assisted Take-off. LOL

Depends on the type of camera. If it's not a DSLR it's probably on the lens itself. It should be possible to clean it with a huff & a wipe with a soft cloth.

It's a Canon PowerShot A620, got it in Japan, I'm sure the lense is scratched from the micro dust of Iraq and the volcanic ash of here and Mt Fuji, but I'll give it a shot, either way Im getting a better camera for christmas lol but I do appreciate the tip, and I agree, it should be RATO, they arent jets by any definition...

Ah, not a DSLR then. Most DSLRs like my Canon 350D are very susceptible to dust on the sensor usually caused when changing lenses.
I hadn't thought about scratches & that seems most likely. The reason I mentioned it is that my little Fuji suffers from similar smudges. This was my first digital camera & I was scared to try cleaning the lens for a long time. I give it a wipe almost every time I go out now. Roll on Christmas.
