Holy merciful polygons!  That is tremendous.  I love the detail work on that.  Those shots of the interior say it all . . .

Holy cow!!! That is awesome! Only thing is, I look at all the awesome work you have done here and I cannot help but wonder how long it took you to make that. It makes me realize just how much there really is to modeling these aircraft and the kind of work and time I am going to have to invest in this endeavor myself.  Shocked

Great Model!

There actually isn't That much work involved in the modelling. It's only taken this long because:

A, I've gone back to a couple of items to remodel them when fresh, more detailed, information has been     found.

B, I've been learning how to use the program ( FSDS )

The lessons I've learnt are that you can't do too much research. You will only get out what you put in.
90% of the time has been spent on research, finding original drawings, manuals, photographs, measurements and contacting people who have worked on / with or flown the aircraft.

Once you have decided what aircraft you want to model do plenty of research ( did I mention research before ? )

Don't be afraid to go back and remodel something. I find it's easier to work on two or three parts at once, otherwise it can get tedious. But don't get too far ahead before you actually finish a part.

One of the things I would change, if I started again, and will change for my next model would be to texture as I go.

You must save frequently, and I mean frequently, I save up to 25 files in an 8 hour session. Do frequent tests in FS, not the whole aircraft but just the part you are working on. If you set up the aircraft cfg file early on then the part will show up were it's meant to be, a seat in mid air for example.

Good luck with what ever you decide to model.

Yes, I can how "research" is very important here. That won't be much of a problem for me though as I literally grew-up in and around airplanes and have a great deal of experience in aviation hence, my intense interest in FSX. My father was a Naval Aviator and I used to be a pilot myself (student pilot) until I discovered that an uncorrectable inner-ear injury I received as a child made actual flying in small craft almost impossible for me. I get vertigo VERY easily and it is usually pretty severe. Also, I worked at a flight school run by an old Marine Corps. Pilot (Lt. Col.) on the flight line for years and have seen many of the aircraft in FSX in person and even flown in some of them. One of my fathers friends was a very wealthy man who started his own airport and Warbird squadron, a man by the name of John Macguire and he has some BEAUTIFUL, vintage WWII aircraft that I have limited access to. Mr Macguire has passed-away some years ago though, so my access to the aircraft isn't as exclusive as it once was. He made the airport and the Warbird Museum it's own entity before he died so it survives today. It  is the Santa Teresa Airport and Warbird Museum in Santa Teresa, NM (just outside of El Paso, TX) http://www.war-eagles-air-museum.com/exhibits.html but those who run it now don't really know me.

One of my goals is to re-create the aircraft my father flew in, an EC-121 "Willy-Victor" with his squadron designations and using the correct colors. There are a couple of decent EC-121's out that I have seen but they are not historically or aesthetically accurate.  My father has told me a great deal about the aircraft that will aid me in re-creating it for FSX ... I just need to find a 3-view of an EC-121 now.

In any case, you did a great job on that model ... I only hope that I can do as well when I get the ball rolling here.

Thanks for all your comments, they are extremely encouraging.

Here is an update on progress with the model.

I've been able to add the Cargo door operating handle to the model. The rest of the mechanism will follow.

...

Also I've now incorporated the door locks. Some of the stringers have also been added to the interior.

...

...

Through some XML Kung Foo the cargo doors will;

Open and close automatically with the default SHIFT+E then 2, this also opens and closes the locks.

Open manually by clicking the right side of the plate behind the handle, the doors will only open manually if all the locks have been opened
manually with a right click.

Close manually by clicking the left side of the plate, the locks then have to be manually closed with a left click.

If the locks are clicked either left or right with the doors opening or closing manually the locks will not close.

The doors can only be opened or closed with the aircraft on the ground and only if both props are not turning.

I have also cleaned up the seat cushions and given them a more rounded authentic appearance.

...

The seats have now been animated. In the case of the Co Pilots seat it can;

Travel forwards / backwards. This will move the view point forwards / backwards. It will only travel backwards if the floor hatch is closed
exactly as in the aircraft.

Raise and lower. This will raise / lower the view point.

Raise and lower the arm rests.

...

Once again many thanks for your comments, and I'll keep you posted as the model developes.
