I have had vista for some time but reinstalled xp several months ago, last night I decided to give it another try so I popped in the recover CD I made after rebooting xp booted up Ummm OK, I noticed Vista installed on the @#@# D drive not the C drive. Everything I had backed up over 50 gigs of stuff gone!!! Why would it do that I guess that the files were overwritten there just gone I tried several file recovery progams but nothing. I hate microsoft , windows, vista Sorry I had to vent.

If I'm not mistaken, you have to specify which partition, on which drive you want to install Windows on.  At least I have been able to every time I've installed XP and Vista...
