What is with everyone suddenly doing these "rip this!" stuff all of the sudden? It's kinda getting old now, especially since we have the freeware and payware sections to put these in. Seriously?

Well, this part of the forum is meant for improving the screenshots...It's all about improving our skills here...That's why it's called a workshop

StudioV is where all the hardcore screenartists hang out and play. Rip this threads are where a person posts one or two images for some tough-but-fair critisizm. Rip this threads are for judging, the freeware/payware threads are for display.

Ashar and Jet Ranger are correct, but StubbedToe has a point.
When posting in either freeware/payware, I've seen individuals state "Comments or Criticism welcome." As I see it, that's asking for what Jet terms as "tough-but-fair critisizm" and "judging." What they're asking for is what Ashar points out as how to "improve" one's skills.
Yes, I've posted a few here myself to get feedback, but the responses I get are the same if I post them in freeware. As such, it's pointless for me to even do the "Rip This" anymore.
Just my two cents.

But I mean, why not just say "Rip This" in the freeware or payware section?

I guess its the mentality of being in the studio and seeing a shot posted there... people KNOW then what is wanted from them.
If you see someone asking for 'a rip' (
) in the feeware section, you can end up - I have been in the past - unsure of how tough to be and whether you may cause offence.

But there's no point in posting shots you know are not your best and having people rip into them, be honest in the freeware sections if their picture is titled as such

That isn't quite the point of a rip this. People post shots that they believe
are
their best, and then have people comment on them in a hyper-critical manner. It's all about helping the person who produced the shots improve.
You should try posting a rip this.. can be very helpful.

Did in freeware
Most of the rip this shots honestly are not as good as the ret of their work. Rather, crap. Some is, at least.
