Ok, so I'm cruising around base the other day right? And I hear some distant rumbling, not the usual P3 or C17 rumble I usually hear around here, so I decide to investigate and take a ride to the flight line, and sure enough, the day I have been waiting for is getting closer...Blues on the Bay!!!! More pics to come this weekend, got front row tickets and my camera is ready!
Bonus : The pilots are gonna be at the Enlisted club Saturday, so with any luck I'll be having a beer with the Navy's finest this weekend, and maybe talk number 7 into taking me for a spin

They won't. They did the last JATO at KSNS a few weeks ago.

Cool! The Angels are coming to Ft. Worth in a couple of weekends. I'm not real sure if I am going yet or not, but hopefully everything will work out to where I can. I've seen them do the JATO on the C-130 at the same air show several years ago. Pretty cool stuff.

Yeah I've seen the JATO a few times too, it's wicked! Sad to hear that they wont do it here, but maybe we'll get lucky. They've been practicing a lot today and their turn around points are over my apartment so we been getting buzzed a lot today haha it's great!

Go on Google or youtube and type in "JATO".
I love to see Fat Albert with JATOs attached.

Why did they stop using the JATO? I was disappointed that they didn't use it at an airshow I attended earlier this year.

I believe a large percentage of the remaining stock of JATO bottles was lost when Hurricane Ivan hit NAS Pensacola in 2004. They are no longer manufactured so will have to be rationed unless another source of supply can be found.
Technically JATO (JET-Assisted Take Off) is the wrong acronym. These are rockets so it should be RATO.

Examples of JATO include, late model Lockheed Neptunes, late Convair B-36s, late K/B-29s, K/B-50s, and the K/C-97.
Now RATO, the LC-47, C-130T, LC-130, Mirage III, Mirage IV and B-47 are some examples.
