Well, it would appear if they are filmed at a GP meeting. The Hamilton video has now been taken down by youtube because F1 Management exerted a copyright claim as it was filmed from the grandstands at Fuji.
Any barrack room lawyers amongst us?

Bernie Ecclesrock isn't a mulitbilliogazillionaire for nothing! The only TV/video cameras are the ones he negotiates with as far as FOA are concerned.

True, but the film was from a spectator in the crowd using his own video camera. So the copy right should then belong to the shooter of the film.
Which is why todays so called
famous
can only claim invasion of privacy, they cannot make a claim on copy right.

Mmm, not sure it's that simple. For example if I take photo's at work they are technically Crown Copyright as they are taken on MoD land. I'm sure Bernie's found a way to make such he has copyright of any footage of a modern F1 event.

If you check the small print on any ticket for a race meeting there is a clause that states that, any images or film taken at the event is the property of the promoter. The same goes for theatre shows, concerts and any other sporting event. At most theatre shows photography is strictly prohibited. For most events you will require written permission to use any images you do take.
Wether the rule is enforced is up to the promoter.
(This applies to the UK any I will assume that other countries have similar regulations.)

from time to time Utube has this hassel with the FIA.
every now and again i look up some archive Senna stuff there and read comments of those not happy with this kind of thing , but hey, they can do as they choose. for the most part though there is heaps of F1 footage on utube so i dont know why they decide to clamp down on specific stuff like this.
i knnow nothing of this story , just noticed this thread.
btw there is some great Senna interviews translated with subtitles that are gold on there.
sorry, carry on, as you were.

The cars themselves during a race weekend are considered the intellectual property or however its known, of the FOM, as such they can control how videos of them are used in public. The FIA and FOM have a commercial agreement in place and as such bernie can say and use how he wants all race footage. I knew the second this footage was made known by STR and the media, that it would be removed. I bet the poor bloke who posted it, only wanted to show his mates how he had spent his sunday afternoon, now his 17 seconds of poor quality (but interesting) video in theory could decide a title fight.
