Found this 'First Flight' 25c at work yesterday & thought it was extremely cool, not sure if they're rare in the US, but I've never seen one before in Blighty.  Smiley

That's one of the  quarters that were issued to honor the 50 states... on the back of each there's something relevant to that state in particular. I think "First in Flight" is NC's state motto... it's on the auto license plates issued in that state, anyway.
I'm sure they minted tons of these, but if you have the full set in mint condition they might be worth something decent in 50 years or so. Grin

I love how the light makes it look, at first glance, like there's a question mark under 'in God we trust'... Grin

Thats a "P."  It designated what mint the coin was created at.  This one was made in Philadelphia, PA.  Other have a "D" for Denver...there are also proof only issues (which typically aren't seen in circulation) which will have an "S" as they were made in San Francisco.

As you can probably guess...one of my hobbies is collecting American coins.   Roll Eyes

By the way, there are a couple others that are aviation related.

The Ohio quarter (2002):

The Florida quarter (2004) features a Space Shuttle on it which I suppose is also aviation related:

See several dozen a month.  Have almost all the current ones so far with just 4 missing from 1999-2006.  (Collecting both mints Wink )

Our quarter...amazingly it had nothing to do with corn Shocked  Or farming for that matter Angry  They stuck with the Indy 500 theme...woo freakin whooo, would have liked to see something more related to the whole state like farming then a freakin race car Angry
...

Crossroads of America.  More highways/interstates meet in this state then any other...and that can be a royal pain in the Lips Sealed  Especially in some cities where 5 different highways run together and its only a guess as to which one your on Undecided

Our quarter was somewhat surprising too.  I figured that an Oregon quarter would have one obvious thing...a covered wagon symbolic of the Oregon Trail...but instead they decided to go with a Crater Lake design.  I really like how it turned out, but the Oregon Trail would have been a better fit I think.
