Earlier today I came across a website with free ware planes, (most can be found here, havnt looked through them all) but when you click download.. they require you to pay for a registration.. (not like here where it gives you faster downloads, you HAVE to register to download them) not sure if this would go against some peoples terms and conditions on their free ware aircraft, just thought I would post.. website is www.flyawaysimulation.com -- you can make an account.. but before you can use it, it requires you to pay $5 (monthly) before it will be opened

As an admin here at SimV.  I prefer not to comment on this issue.

I'd rather say that Simviation's popularity is entirely due to the guiding mission of providing content to the flightsimming enthusiasts, with as minimum fuss as possible.  I don't think it is of value to comment the requirements and/or conditions that other sites impose.

It's happened before. In particular at one evil site that shall not be named. Developers have been fighting this ever since add on development was handed to the public. Technically the fee is a membership to the site not to download the planes but they provide no option to download for free. Even that is against the terms for many add ons which specifically state that the add on is not to be hosted on any site that charges a fee, but to fight it would take a lot of money and effort so not many have.

if payware sites say they love flying then why are they putting a price on to fly on fellow flight simmers?

Because of the amount of time and effort put into their projects. With a few exceptions, payware products are high quality and require alot of work and beta testing.

If we're going to get into the argument of 'why should we have to pay for virtual flight'... should FS itself be freeware?
