Because if EVERYONE got 100kbps download speed, it would chew up the bandwidth, thus, leading to the demise of a site we have all come to love.

But you can get a paid membership for faster downloads, I believe.  Which reminds me, time to go count pennies . . . well, yen, anyway . . .

Yes, there is a Primier Membership available at SimV.  See the main page.  While SimV is committed to free access to anyone, to provide that service to the community as was already pointed out uses HUGE bandwidth...and hence incurs some HUGE expenses.  Unrestricted free bandwidth for everyone is just not an option within any sense of reality.

The Premier membership gives you faster downloads, but the REAL reason to join is to support the existance of SimV and to support the hobby itself and the continuing tradition of open sharing of additions to the sim.

The cost is less than most single payware add-ons cost these days.

best,

.................john

I've just signed up for Premier membership, indeed good value for money. Now if only I could find the time to download a few packages... or indeed find time to enjoy the sim  Tongue  Roll Eyes

You're not the only one. I can't remember the last time I downloaded anything! Or used FS! Grin
