EDITOR'S CHOICE

It's been a while since the last 'hotshot' thread..... ...but I thought I'd try to resurrect it but with a slightly different concept - the idea is to give some recognition to new talent or interesting ideas.... if not spotted, then a great piece of screenart will 'do'. Hence the change of name - the shot may not always be red 'hot' but, in that case, it should be 'different'.

Editors are people involved previously with the Hotshot concept: Theis, Clipper, Krigl, Spyro and also Mictheslik. "Default editor" is Krigl, as we are all really busy with other stuff, real life etc. It probably won't be 'weekly' either. More... occasional  Cheesy

Chosen shots will go in the portfolio gallery.

Freeware: by N2744X

What I liked about this shot from the main site screenshot competition was the imagination behind it - “small town airshow surprise” - and especially the clever use of an extra ‘window’ to focus on the pilot and his view of the grandstand.

Payware: by Harold Kip

...

Choosing a payware shot was easy this time – I wanted to recognise in a small way the amazing work which Harold Kip has been putting into his Pacific Coast tour. The pictures are great, but the information included with them has made the series come alive in a way that no tour has done before. Hats off to Harold!

What can I say…. Another massive new talent in the edited section…. Very very nice idea and execution!!

I hope you enjoyed these three choice shots... comments for the creators welcome.

Shots will go up in the portfolios tonight.

Thank you very much Roger! I really appreciate the recognition for my Tour of the Pacific Coast.

For those of you who are not aware of my tour ... here's a little backgrounder:

(you can also 'click the sig' - there's a link to the previous part on top of every thread)

The goal of my tour is to fly along the entire Pacific Coast; starting at the most northern point of the American Pacific Coast, Attu Island in Alaska and flying all the way to Tierra del Fuego, the most southern point of the American continent. Initially, I was planning to do so using only one plane, my Cessna C206 Stationair but decided for the Beech D-18S. After some feedback I also decided to use different aircraft for the different legs. TSC helped me with a nice little storyline for switching to another aircraft.

Just for my own enjoyment I started searching through a lot of different Flight Simulator websites for scenery that I could use in my tour and I ended up acquiring over 350 different (freeware and payware) scenery packages ... only for Alaska. And yes, I know that is a little awkward. But I thought it would be really nice to show most of these scenery packages to the SimV community, so that everybody knows which packages are available for that part of the world, besides only showing some nice screenshots.

Again, for my own enjoyment, I would look up information on the island, mountain, town or airstrip that I was flying over and I ended up adding that information to the different threads of the tour to make the reading a little more interesting and educational.

I thought that flying the Pacific Coast would take me a month, maybe two to complete the tour but as my scenery library grew and a lot of time went into research and coming up with new ideas, I decided I would just take my time finishing the tour. Also I didn't want three or more threads of my tour 'gracing' every page in the screenshot forum.

So who knows when I will finish my tour ... right now I think it will easily continue into the next year, but I have no idea when I will arrive in the south of Argentina - that is still a lot of planning, research and scenery files away - but I will get there! I'm not fishing for compliments but please keep sharing your feedback on my tour as it continues. If anything is encouraging it is feedback, positive or negative. Please tell me what you like or don't like. And if anybody has suggestions for the tour please do not hesitate to message me.

Watch out for the next parts of my Tour of the Pacific Coast coming soon! Here's a little teaser ...

All three merit selection for EC, the third is a crafty combination of superb visuals and a very moody theme. Nice work all three... Smiley

All three are indeed worthy. I praised the Edited shot in it's original thread, it is, without doubt, one of the most creative examples of 'screenshot art' i've ever seen. If only the author could spell!!  Wink
