Hello !

I'm using 3DSMax8 now but I've got problems with it. Can I use Max9 for aircraft modelling to FS9/FSX?

Thanks

Wow!  A $3500.00 program...  It must be nice to be able to afford that just for our little flight sim!  Wink

Alrot - You're not quite right.

THe FS-X SDK Tools can be used with MAx 7 OR 8, but not 9.  What can be done with Max9 is export the model to 3DS and import it to gmax to finish the detailing/texturing to the FS-X.

WHile MAx 7/8/9 have a lot more tools and features than gmax, let's remember that even gmax has a lot more features than FS can handle.

Thanks the answers !

Another question : is there difference between FS9's MDL and FSX's mdl? I exported and converted from 3DS to X, then to MDL, but FS9 won't load the visual model of the plane...

Gaspen ,If I were you I would download gMax wich is free ,FS9 planes work in FSX ,you can use the FS9-sdk ,and the planes you made should work also in FSX ,you need to map everything ,natural colours that are in the gMax will show in FS9 but not in FSX so you need to map ,Including the Glass (winshield etc,) that all you have to do,

All the models available for FSX are actualy old compiled in the old Makemdl9 (FS9-SDK)what theyy change is some gauges wich are not compatible in FSX and place new gauges, and remapp the glass ,and Whala,an FSX plane

,Its not that easy that it seems to make a plane ,you need to read a lot ,I would suggest you to visit freeflight.com and read ,to get familiar with many things ,you don't need to waste $3.000 dollars yet ,until you learn enough in Gmax wich is almost the same (both are the same Discreet.com )

As far as I know, Discreet since a lot of months hang up supports for Gmax, you can't download it from his webpage.  Undecided

There ARE significant differences between the two SDKs, - and enough smiliarities that you can easily get tripped up!

To quote Fr. Bill,  he is finishing up his current projects - for both FS9 and FS-X - in gmax, and will turn to Max8 for future projects due to the ability to "bake"  textures.  However, Fr. Bill creates models for a payware company and therefore they get the return on the investment.

and from the FS-X Deluxe DVD (or FS9 disc).

You still need (well, should) go through http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax to complete the free registration process, or get the registration workaraound.

Yes I know about TurboSquid opportunities, but the support is down, so no any newest version, bugfix, etc.  Sad

Thanks boys !

I think I asked wrong way.... anyway I found the solution by myself : I modeling the plane in 3DS, export it to .X format. If I want a FS9 plane I use MakeMDL.exe, and for FSX I use XtoMDL.exe Smiley

discreet *was* going to pull the plug definitely on gmax.  The main problem is that not many game developers were willing to ante up the US10K+ for gmax-dev, the version used to really create the gamepacks.

The official word is that further gmax development was going to be halted, pending the appearance of Microsoft VISTA and DX10 ... rumor has it that there are rumblings at discreet about revisiting gmax, but nothing official is coming out.

*my* guess is that gmax wioll eventually be updated if enough game developer support can be counted upon.

Felix is in a much better position to know, but I would agree with that from all that I've seen inferred...  Wink
