Bereznyak-Isayev BI-1. Wink

It would've been a sort of Soviet Me-163, but unlike the Komet, it never entered service (though a few production models were built before development was cancelled).

Haven't seen it before, but thanks very much for this link! Cheesy

I was looking for a website like this where I could learn about the most obscure (but often most interesting) of Russian aircraft. Normally I used Wikipedia, and while it is a great source of quick info, their shelves are a little bare when it comes to the rarer Russian planes...

Like most late 30s stuff it disappeared after the factory relocation messed up production lines.

Theres a lot of interesting stuff from 1930s russia that never went past drawing board stage. Usually involving ramjet powered planes, some where rumoured to be transsonic capable

And that the few that were active did make a few kills...

But landing the thing was really dangerous

Are you sure about that Ivan? It says HERE that only 7 powered flights were made. The project was abandoned after the test pilot was fatally injured during the 7th & final flight.

Nopbody is sure about ANY military statistics from russia in 1942... They hardly knew how many planes they had at the end of the week. Anything that could fly was put into action and when it was unrepairable stripped for parts or cut in pieces

That thing is so fun in IL-2  Grin. I love attacking HE-111 formations with it

Like the IL-18 4-engined airliner that never made it into production past the prototype ?

Il-18 V1 was personally binned by Stalin
