With a little extra effort, you can still get the same quality out of cloudy shots than those with full sun.

Are you allowed to edit to alter colour and saturation etc.?
I remember seeing a few captions on some photos with comments such as "Thats to [blah] for the editing"
Oh well, I'm pretty cr*p with photoshop and the like, but I had a bash, hell its probably not what your looking for atall but I was bored, what can I say

You'd have to be extremely lucky to get a shot onto any of the databases without some kind of editing, afterwards!
As for that image, it was probably a bad choice to use that as an example, as it isn't as sharp as you'd like it to be (can see that around the text on the fuselage). But yes, you've got the right idea.

Every single one of my two hundred or so shots (I did used to bother with their madcap standards) on A.net were edited.

Maybe Mic isn't interested in submitting them to Anet.

How do you mean, exactly?

Maybe, maybe not, but the fact is, you should still go through a degree of post processing, if you want to get the best out of your camera. Posting on forums, submitting to databases, the lot.

No amount of editing can make a poor shot look good.. they have to be worthy in the first place, like all of yours Steven.
I personally prefer the "raw" look of a photo, much like Mic's in these few threads.. sort of show them as they are, if you like. If it's cloudy and bad light, so be it.

Remember a raw photo will rarely portray the actual conditions/lighting of the day. Most of the time you'll have to alter the levels or something, to give a more realistic look.
