My first time making an airport. I attempted to make one for airshows.. any small aircraft.
It has a ramp so you can drive your favorite amphibian right into the lake. (which is also a runway you can start out on)

I'm still playing around with it. I'm not really satisifed yet.
Ignore the airplane. Can't figure out how to make it go away so I can just take scenery pictures.

That looks great!!!  Shocked Sorry I can't read it I don't have much time right now, but later!  Cool Cheesy

Edit: I now have time Cheesy
Can you tell me where this airport is?
And is it for FS9 and/or X? I'd prefer FS9, but of course both would also be ok ....  Cool Roll Eyes

This is definitly the airport concept I like most of all I've ever seen, because of the great idea of putting the taxiways partially on grass and asphalt and make it a both amphib and conventional airport!
Really great!

PS: If you like it, I would like to help you with further developing this airport,  Cool Cheesy Wink for example with more scenery buildings and traffic.
PPS: These amphib aircraft there, are they static objects or traffic?

Edit2:
PPPS: Another idea: New textures for the edges of your airfield to fit to surrounding forest.

I appreciate it.

Yeah, the background texture has been a problem. I can't seem to find one that fits. The default fsx texture underneath is a big mass of trees which looks funny if I don't put the texture overtop of it.  Yeah, it is fsx. I'm probably using some fsx-only features in it.

I've completely re-done it since I posted this. My computer couldn't handle all the scenery I wanted to make it look good. Framerates got to an unreasonable number.

Now it's like a private owned land.. with a house, garage, lake-ramp, small parking spot. Looks alot nicer when I'm not trying to fill such a large area up. It's not like the original concept though. I'm still playing around and learning. I'll go back to the original concept eventually. (but in a different location)

The airport is located at the northern tip of the southern peninsula of Michigan. Near the Mackinac bridge. Not alot of good scenery around since everything is flat. I imagine that I'll remake the original conept airport at a different location that's more fun to fly.  Any suggestions for locations are welcome.

Thanks for your feedback. I wasn't sure if people where going to think that the grass taxiways and runways where cheesy. I personally really like it that way. Just think of the lines and markings as the ground being painted like a football field.

Download an aircraft without a VC (Mike Stone's would be choice).  Then fly around and use the VC view to see nothing but scenery!

I used Airport Facilitator X and Instant Scenery to make the airport. Both available at http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?category=fsx.

The runway is just a standard grass runway with all the markings enabled.

I ended up canning that airport and am in the process of re-building it. If it ends up being good and if I can ever figure out how to add AI airtraffic to it I may add it to the freeware scenery page here at simv.

Here are some screens of the rebuild so far.
Located in Washington.
(ended up not being how I first wanted)

I like it so far. I'm just having trouble getting some ai traffic into it. And the comm frequencies are weird too.. Sometimes when talking to atc you get stuck in a loop between 'contact tower' and 'contact ground' with no options to choose anything. Not sure what's going on. All asigned frequencies seem to be legitament.

I sometimes have this problem when taxiing on an airport.
The atc always waits for an action of you, an action you maybe don't even know of Wink
A solution: Just take-off without allowance Cheesy (really works), or just land (if you're in the air before).

I also like this airport very much.
But the first one is still in my mind.... A great airport concept I could dream of....  Cool Cheesy

when you created your airport above where there trees in the way.
what i mean is when you created it and positioned it were default trees in the way of the airport.

You maybe don't want to tell me this, but Puchu?!  Huh
By the way: AFX that he used lets you make exclusion rectangles which can hide all autogen objects.
AFCAD does this not.

Flattening areas! Cheesy

I don't know which prog to use for this, but it's a well-known one, just ask in a new post, so that other see it.
I have never worked with airports but I have read articles over nearly everything of FS.....  Roll Eyes Grin
