It is made to please the eye - so it is art.

Some people edit only to get rid of minor imperfections in an image. Clearly, jnc is not one of those. He produces edits that are dramatic and do not claim to be realistic. Why should every edit conform 100% to reality? There is an opportunity in editing to represent things that are either impossible or nigh-on impossible to organise/witness in the real world - so why not exploit that opportunity?

You seem to be working around the concept that the no.1 priority in any edit is 'are the realistic aspects absolutely in-check?'. Very few, if any, of the editors that post here at SimV follow that philosophy.

Excuse me, but who do you think you are, to come around to Simviation, and start insulting everyone who posts an edit? Again, this is not meant to be an ordinary edit, but a work, of art. At LEAST take the time to be kind and considerate, to those who are actually trying, experimenting in the world of editing, instead of laughing at them, and calling their wonderful edit, a pile of crap.

Edit: Hey everybody, look at my post count! LOL! It WAS 1234.

It's an edit by an editor not art by an artist. Who made the plane? Aviation artists make everything from scratch. I think that after all of the work that real artists put into their art that they deserve to be called artists and editors should be called editors. It takes much more skill to be an artist than to be an editor. You shouldn't put down real artists by claiming that they are nothing more than editors on steroids. You shouldn't build up editors by claiming they are artsits either. Not fair to the artists.

Well let's see some of your work then... Wink Grin

You seem to be labouring under the impression that the definition of art is paint and canvas. Not so. Art comes in many forms. In my and many other people's opinions, this is an art form, and it is certain that this screenshot was made to be art, so even if you don't like it, you should respect it as such.

Okay then - who made the paint and the canvas that the mona lisa was created with?

These are two completely separate things - the model may well be fantastic and a joy to fly, but it also takes a hell of a lot of skill to make anything look good in a screenshot/edit

Moderator please. This crosses the line. I don't see that he's staff. Does he have authority to tell me that if I disagree with his point of view that that I don't belong on these forums? Does he speak for this site?

Round here we regard editors as artists and if you cannot accept that, you do not belong on these forums.

I've not done anything against the rules....merely defended the creator of this wonderful piece of artwork. Wink

The opinion I just experessed is widely held here. I didn't mean to personally insult you, so if that comment appears to be personal it was not intended as such and I'll remove it...

I wasn't attempting to 'put you in your place' - it's more of a piece of advice. Comments about screenshots and edits are meant to be constructive. Some of yours did not seem to be so, and if you carry on a mod is going to be on your back for it...

I also did not mean to sound pompous and overbearing - if I did then I apologise. It was not my intention.

We can have fun discussing art issues all day long but let's keep it at that. I don't see where you are the one chosen to speak for this site or all of it's members and I don't see that you have the authority to say who does and who doesn't belong in these forums. Am I wrong about that?

You seem to have got the wrong idea my friend. I was not attempting to bend your ways to my will - that's definately a mod's job ( Grin). It is just that some of your comments seem rather... obnoxious.

You seem to have taken offence where none was intended.....

You are perfectly right that it is not my job to tell you the rules - however that is not what I was trying to do.

Let's please not argue - it's most un-SimV-ish.... Wink Smiley

I'm not arguing. I am for the third time now requesting a moderator.

I'll let the mod decide that, if you don't mind.

I know I shall live to regret asking this but what do you expect a moderator to do? Lock or delete a thread every time you disagree with someone else's comments?

All comments here are simply the personal opinion of the people that post them. Please don't take yourselves so seriously.

Honestly the term " ... then you dont belong on these forums..." is most commonly used by the moderators. All I can say is that you can try to take it down a notch on your "critique" (and I am not just saying that because you commented on my edits) and everything should be ok.

BTW- the editors on these forums who really truly know what they are doing should be considered artists, because they have to take two pieces of work and fuse them together in a remarkable way which takes a lot of skill and can take an extremely long time to perfect a technique. Its something the average Joe can do, but needs to work at daily for a while and listen to those giving advice. I feel that also in art if one person works hard enough and is really trying, he can become an artist.

Just asking for a simple clarification by staff for the record. Does he have the authority to disinvite people from this forum? Is it appropriate and withing the rules to do that? Does he in fact have any authority at all? I want to be clear where we stand.

Thank you.
