I was wondering if I could suggest us having an annual moderator election? Anybody who has been on the forum over a year can be nominated, and we have stages of voting until it is down to 5 or 6 members. The mods would have full power to deny anyone from the election though, as in if they do not trust a certain member who has been voted for, they can be taken off the ballet. It would go to a poll, and then the member with the most votes would become the next moderator. Obviously there might not be a need for more moderators, and no body would be forced into becoming a moderator if they do not want the responsibility. Please do not think I'm trying to BS my way into becoming a mod, because I wouldn't qualify. I just had this idea and wanted to suggest it.

To be honest, I think we already have a superb team of mods, who are fair and just, and the number of them is about right....do we really need any more???

Nothing for nothing, but pete, the owner of this site, decides when and if we need another moderator.
And if we do, it is up to him for the final say.

It is not up to the members to decide who should be a Mod for obvious reasons as you have stated above.
Do you think you should have that privilege or something?



There are many variables that go into deciding who should be a Mod , when we feel the need for one!
For one, time zones are taken into consideration, is there a mod on 24/7?
How this site elects its moderators is not up to the users of this site.

Do you want to know how it is done.
If we think we need another Mod, we talk about it in the admin forum.
We throw around some names.
We discuss if those people are right for the job.
Are they a positive influence on this community?
Does that person try to diffuse aggressive situations?
Does that person know how to remain "neutral" in different situations?
Does that person come across as a mature individual that knows how to represent Pete's business?
Does that person have knowledge of flight Sims and flight in general?
Should this person be a Global or admin position?

Then and only then if pete and all of us agree, is the person contacted by pete and asked.
You would be amazed how many people have refused the offer.
Being a Mod is not the most rewarding thing.


You know the whole Bjorn - Nick thread?
Do you want that responsibility?
Do you want to see how it feels to lose a valued member of this site because the member thinks that the administration of this site did not handle things correctly?
Believe me, it is not rewarding!


I would say sit back, enjoy the forums and post responsibly.
Who knows...
Maybe one day pete will ask you  Wink



Now let me get to the dozen PM's I recieved this weekend over the entire Nick leaving episode as I was truly upset by the entire thing.

i think a moderator should be someone who has earnt the right in the admins/other mods eyes... i dont think its very fair or reliable to get a position as high as a moderator from being a year old user or 'winning' the position.

Nick, what advantages could an election possibly possess? I think if anything, mods in different time zones should be the thing to push for, so we are moderated basically, 24/7.

Who said anything about democracy? This is a private forum & the owner makes the rules. That is his right.

As a point of information, neither the US nor the UK are democracies.    FOr sure, Simviation is NOT  Smiley

And if Mods were voted in, you'd have far too many personal interests involved and friends voting in friends regardless of how mature they are or how well they would ever be able to do the job.

As a point of information, neither the US nor the UK are democracies.

would be more appropriate. Then we could have egos massaged at no practical cost to the forum...

Awards could include:

"Member's Member of the Year"
"Young Member of the Year (under 17s)"
"Lifetime Achievement Award (for the more "mature" posters, as opposed to an "Old Member of the Year" Wink)"
"PITA of the Year"
"Poster of the Year"
"Best Thread of the Year"
"Most Pointless Poll of the Year"
