CTA,

Sometimes it can be.  I also get stuff at local computer clone shops that take trades and have parts and such.  Electronics parts places.  Surplus places.  All manner of stuff.

I also let it be known to freinds and family that I am looking for old computer hardware.

best,

PS:  I'll reply to your PM tomorrow... it's late and I gotta go to bed.  Wink

You gotta watch ebay sometimes, yeah friends and family seem to be the biggest help. My brother in law works trade shows and he picks up computers all the time. If it is a technology fair or something he tells me there is always 2 or three pc's left behind.

I also go hunting during trash day, but no luck so far Wink

In any marketplace, "caveat emptor" is the rule... but the only PC component I ever bought on eBay was priced fairly and delivered promptly in good working order.
It's up to you- take a chance, or don't.

i prefer not to use eBay, firstly my dad doesnt trust paypal because apparently they have taken money from peoples accounts (legally too, but not the users intention)

but also that you have little idea on the condition of the item because it is a random person... online shops are less like this ive found. cclonline, maplin, amazon and ginger6 do some really good and cheap stuff. im waiting for my 4 day delivery on a new graphics card from ginger6 and ive bought plenty from cclonline and amazon
