Well I am back now and I am going to be start working on some projects (including SimV Europe) but I was wondering what you thought of making a small airport in the middle of the mountains or someplace with special scenery and make individual hangers that will be placed along taxiways(that may look like our homes if you like but that's not nessesary). I think it would be nice to have a special area like that to meet besides the big airports(meaning SimV USA and Europe). If you like the idea I will get started right away. Smiley

I will see what I can do with that but we need to make sure all those hangers will fit. Remember, we have a lot of members here.  Wink

I think it's an awesome idea. I'd put it somewhere in the Rockies (maybe like 20 minutes from Denver). I'm not good with flattening, and extra scenery stuff, but I might be able to help with the AFCAD stuff. I think it should be a single small-ish runway with like you said a bunch of hangers for the members. It might be too hard to make one for every one, so maybe we should set criteria or something for who deserves one, or maybe just have more "broad spectrum" hangers. One modeled for the Microsoft Flight Sim Series, one for the Combat Flight Sim Series, one for Designers (with some "works-in-progress" inside), etc...Just some ideas that came to mind...

Hope to see this idea fly,

No I don't think we should make a hanger for every member, just a hanger for every member that wants one. Great idea non-the-less  Smiley

Yes, that's what I am doing. There is no way I can make a hanger for every member because most of them don't even post here.  Grin I will be posting a map of the airport and on the map you will see lot sections which you will be able to choose freely. I have decided to put this airport somewhere in British Columbia because I think they have some of the most beautiful scenery in FS. First I have to find the exact location of the airport, then I will make the airport using AFCAD and then I will draw up a map and post it here. Smiley

I'd like to put in a formal request for a hanger...an idea for personalization...put the users' names on the top of the hanger so they are visible when flying arround the airport...

as from the other thread... please, if you need any help, do ask. im quite good with modelling and i mostly use 3ds max (and anim8or for modelling, its free but i really like it)

i think personalised hangars would be quite cool. maybe they are the same but have a sign above them which has a personalised image (say, under 300kb or so) which makes them unique. would bring the community together well (i think someone mentioned the sign idea)

but yeh, please gimme a shout, ive been dying to make something on flight sim since i got it... i just could never make decent looking aircraft and never thought about scenery  Undecided

I have a better idea. We have one SimV airport and soon to have two SimV airports when the location of SimV Europe is announced. SimV airports will have terminal buildings with gates and we can always add more if needed. It would be better to put our names on those gates rather than make more jetways at a small airport. Besides, hangers give people the feeling that this is their own. They helped make it and it's in a design that they like it to be. Each person can't design their own gate because it would make the terminal building look too weird. I will be posting a map of the SimV USA terminal buildings and people can choose their gates by the number and I will put their username on it. You can also wait for SimV Europe if you want to choose a selection from there and as I said, the map for this small airfield neighborhood will be up shortly. Smiley

You can't make terminals with AFCAD. You have to make the terminal with Gmax and then place the object into the simulator. AFCAD is used to make runways, taxiways, parking, etc.

Ok, I have found a great place for our airport. It is going to be one of many islands off the coast of British Columbia right near the mountains (instead of in the mountains like I originally said). It is very very beautiful and I am sure everyone will like it. Anyway I have done the AFCAD stuff and I now have a map of lots for this airport. Here it is. Take any lot you wish. Now if we run out of lots, there is no need to worry because there is still more of the island we can use and there are other islands too. I will take lot #6. Smiley ...

Hey, what about the Dover cliffs?!  Huh  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
I want my own hangar, too Cheesy
Have you ever heard of Karthago's port at the time of the Rome's Empire?
It was like a large ring with one opening, where all ships parked along around the inside wall.
That could also be done for aeroplanes, not?! At least for those who don't need their own hangars.
And we should specifiy a maximum size of the hangars to make sure that somebody doesn't take take more space he would need for his aircraft and maybe a few flowers.

Edit: I don't care of the place! Place it at a good place (this sentence sounds somehow silly), and I'll be happy Cheesy , or am I already?! Cheesy

/me

PS: What sounds worse:
  • Place it at a good Place                    or
  • This Sentence Sounds Somehow Silly

Well if you're using your house as a model for your hanger I will need pictures of every side of the house to serve as textures. If you're not using your house as a model you will need to create your own textures for each side of the hanger. Have fun. Smiley

Ok, I will see if I can design something like Karthago's port for you. That shouldn't be too much of a problem. As far as maximum size of the hangers, it's really however big you want it to be as long as you stay within the property limits. I will be creating fences to show where the property line is. The nice thing about this is that you can make your hanger a skyscraper if you want. Cheesy

Another idea for our helicopter flyers:
Those who don't want to park their choppers at a boring parking place next to boring c172s  Roll Eyes could build their helipad at the roof of a friend's hangar.......  Cool  Wink Smiley (don't look at the smileys it's no joke!)

I haven't read all posts here, just flew over them, but if you don't have a tower for this, yet:
I don't have much to do at the moment. Can I do one? Would be finished in a few days without textures.
With all details and textures maybe in at least two or 3 weeks. Ok?

You're the one that makes the AFCAD, tue?!
if yes you'll need to specify the tower view point I think.
And shell I leave the inside of the tower empty?
Do you want fully transparent, reflective or coloured glass?  Wink

I just noticed that I don't know if there's a way to have a part with its texture both alpha AND reflective?!

Edit: I currently have about 75% of the outside model, made the window textures but will need to alter them again and will then make the inside look good. I don't have reflective, yet but I think I'll be able to fix this soon.

Well here is my first result: (As Murjax didn't gave me the coordinates yet I've just put it anywhere on Heidelber AAF)

...

The things I'm now going to change:
  • The tube the tower-room stands on doesn't look good enough but I think I already know how to push it.
  • The inside is completely bad (you can't see this from my shot, its another perspektive)
  • Then the outside textures but I'll look for a good texture I'm not good at making those concrete and steel texts.
If you know or have a good one tell me.
  • I have chosen a very strange colour for the windows but I have seen this on a photo of an f-16, the colour of the canopy.
Should I change it or do you like it? I also wasn't sure of how much transparent it should be. I currently have it 128. What do you think?
  • The antennas on top come at the end. (Or maybe a helipad  Wink) ?!

Ok, here are the coordinates. N50* 36.13' W126* 41.50' Now I liked the way you had the tower first. If you can get it back to that somehow it would be something we can use. Also we need those textures in people. We can't have hangers without textures. It would get very boring.  Grin Grin

Last night an idea came to me...If you could give me a plot of land...I thought it would be cool to have a motel called The Fly Inn. It would be a little complex of 3 to 7 hangers with the motel rooms being in theory part of the hanger itself. (above the bay) also there would be a place to refuel the planes, and a small pub or something to refuel the pilots. There could seperate parts for helo's where the motel room roof is flat with a helipad, and then those building would only be about one story tall. i drew up some sketches, but i don't have a scanner. I think it would be cool for visiting pilots that don't have their own hanger.

Do you think this would be possible? (maybe on one of the other islands) and does anyone have some suggestions?

Does someone have textures of persons I can put inside the tower?

I'll now open a new post especially SimV Europe buildings because I think we'll lose overview if we talk about simv europe in the same post as simv usa was and the other half in "neighborhood" .....
Of course here in the "other addons wanted" section.

see you (read you Wink)

I really quite like this idea! Looks like it could be a lot of fun, and a fantastic way for all of us to better "know" each other.

If possible, may I have lot 26, please? I like a nice view of the runway for spotting. Wink

I'll have the idea for my personal hanger (lot 14) and also for The Fly Inn as soon as I get access to a scanner. Hopefully that will be tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.

I don't mind delays. I just want to know that progress will be done. I am glad to hear that we should be getting your plans by tomorrow hopefully. Also there is plenty of room left on the island because the current plans have only taken up half the island so we will be able to put your Fly Inn on the same island. Smiley

Murjax and anyone that happens to like AutoCAD,

I just got the 30-day trial of AutoCAD 2008, found here http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/mform?siteID=123112&id=9106363, and I am going to draft up my plans for my bits of the project using it, then I'll post or PM them to you as screens. I wanted to know if you would like me to model them in 3D or just in 2D. I'm confindent in my skills working with 3D, but it will take longer and because I'm going back to school on Wednesday, my time allowances just got shorter. If it will help you more to have them in 3D I will gladly do so. In 2D you could expect plans for my hanger and the inn by probably Thurday or Friday, but in 3D more likely not untill next Tuesday or Wednesday. Either way I can't wait to see my refined ideas somewhere other than my mind.

Thanks,
LSmedley92291

can i have lot 18? and if possible, could you add a ramp down into the water from the taxiway next to lot 18?

Also, could you post a pic with a plane (something standard, like a 737) on the runway so we can get an idea for the size of this airport?

I'll send you an idea for my hangar space

Why don't you just download it, then you'll see its size! I've seen it recently at a SimV download site!
But that's only the AFCAD layout I think - haven't donwloaded it yet.  Undecided

PS: As soon as it is finished we may get Traffic problems! We should build some "traffic signs" that show us, which runway should be used in which direction!  Wink

I never uploaded it. I'll post some screenshots of it in a bit. I have to fix one of the taxiways first. Wink

And by the way, if you want your hanger to be custom made to your likings, please post your ideas. If you don't care for a custom hanger, I'll just design a hanger for you. Smiley

If possible, I'd like a very "Military" style hanger.

As for where; Any where big enough to fit a C-130/737 size Aircraft would be perfect Wink Preferably, not too far from the runway though Grin Though, honestly, as long as it fits the very, very basic size requirement I listed, I'll be plenty happy! Cheesy

As for a texture, You could just slap my username over the sides in various bright colors (The hanger itself, being darker colored. Lettering, maybe a bright green?).

Something annoying, and easy to find! Grin

(Oh, afterthought. I believe it'd be big enough, but if it isn't; It'd be very nice if it was big enough for an Extra-300 to fly through at full speed Wink)

Great! I know it is maybe not the nicest job to do all the hangars, but imagine you can then say:

"I made nearly everything of an international free-ware airport that's now center of all SimViation Multiplayer Flights!" Grin Grin

I already wrote a wish about a hangar at the last page. If not too much work you can give me a military aircraft shelter or how they're called. I mostly fly fighters... Cheesy

If you could make me a hangar, just one big anough for 2 fighter jets, I would be content. (and if you would make me one, I'd like a military [preferably marine aviation] like one on block 19, with one open side facing north and a helipad on top, oh yeah how original  Roll Eyes also I'd like a large liquor cabinet and a flak 88 to keep the Ashars away)
I promise I won't get drunk and play my loud american rock n' roll or let any of my friends near the place!

It will work in FSX also right? if not, oh well. FS9 is superior anyways.

edit: oh yeah and please put 'Der Unter Oinkmeister' above the entrance.
edit edit: and if you could make space for two jets, have one parking spot labled 'outlet 11's pad' and the other 'Oink-Blabbers spot' and also a pinup of my last girlriend and a slurpee machine and.. wait I'm asking for too much. Scratch the last two edit parts, unless you can do that, except for the pinp of my last girlfriend, she's to hot for you limeys  Grin okay I better stop now before I get out of hand.

actually, if you can just give me lot 19 I'll PM you my ideas.

Good point. I will make some public helipads on the other side of the airport instead.  Smiley

I have taken a small break from the project because I'm about to go on a trip in a few days. I should have the project almost done by the time I come back though. I have a lot of hangers completed. I'll post a screenshot of them when I come back and do a few more.  Smiley

Just spotted this thread again after a period of 'away-ness' ( Huh) and if no-one else has claimed it (not entirely clear on that one) I'd like #13 please. Though to be honest I'd be happy with whatever I got. Cheesy

Edit; just seen wingo's earlier request. I shall revise my desires.

Edit 2; Plot #20 please.

Not trying to make this a huge airport or anything, but maybe a second runway should be added like this to break up the traffic:

...

Also, when it's done, are we going to have a big multipayer session to start it off? Maybey we should have a team of Blue Angels start training for a show now. Grin

A little bigger then a cessna 172, the fence and props still need some down scaling, ive made the hangar door frequency controlled so that i can open or close it when i put my nav 2 too 112.000. I hope nobody minds i took that  frequency??

If your good in taxing it can hold a lear, getting it out shouldnt be a problem, just hop out and push it back Grin.

Dont mind the textures, still a very early process, and yes, the pink hurts my eyes!! Wink. You should have about 30cm over, 15 on each side with the default lear45.

Would it be okay if I used the same model as you, minus the fence and other stuff? If so could it be white on the front and back and a turquoise blue on top? On top could it say in white letters going lengthwise Brando14100? Hope it's not to much to ask.

From the top mabey something like this:
...

And mabey this on the front:

The front wont be white, it will be a worn metal type texture, so il make a sign wich will contain the name, and make a worn paint text on top also with the name.

Ok, now for an update. So far, I have been working on the easy hangers, meaning ones that haven't been "custom made".
I'm almost done with the easy ones, so I would like everyone who wants a custom hanger to please send in their Gmax plans so I can work on it. Now for some screenshots.

Ariel view of the airport.
...
A white hanger. (If you want me to make all hangers white, please let me know.)
...
A map of lots left. (Please note that I may have misjudged the size of the hangers compared to the lots and there may be some extra room left in between hangers that could be used when the last three lots are taken.)
...

I havent been able to work a lot on it, i did managed to UVmap my hanger though. Il texture it when i get the time, but i had to spend the last 4 days in Flash Actionscript to work on the code for a game, i love way-to-short deadlines.. Cry.

Don't feel in a rush. Whenver you have time, we'll get it in.

Sure, but i was planning on giving it a metal textures, so the colours you see know can be disregarded! What specific type font is it that you would like me too use?

Never got backto you on the font. How about starjedi, not hollow. It's Star Wars(free from here: http://www.dockingbay101.com/fonts/) top one

I wouldn't mind a hanger, just a default type hanger would be fine, if it could have KD Air written somewhere on it would be awesome.

I think I requested a hangar way earlier, but I don't remember, so if it's fine by you a simple little hanger with roof clearance for a heli, and if I do get one, I'd like a navy and USMC flag over the entrance with a bunch of little posters on the inside, also if that's okay, I'll e-mail the pics for the posters or somethin.

edit: or you could send me base textures and i'll make the textures myself if that's fine.

I'm still waiting for the plans to be sent to me. Unless nobody cares for custom hangers.

If there are any slots left, could I have one please? I'd like a military style hangar or shelter please. I tend to fly things about 727 or DC-9 sized.

thanks either way Smiley

Hello, just wondering how this is going?

Also, two questions:

-What are the runway specifications?

-And, Lots 24 and 25 (page 10) look sizable from a distance, how large are those two spots please?
(Thinking about Tu-154 compatibility, at least the ability to nose it partially in, while having the tail hang out...) Grin
EDIT: (...maybe the YS-11 instead...we'll see...)

He told me it is somewhere between 7 and 10,000 feet a while back. Murjax couldn't remember exactly when I asked him. With that you could probably determine an approximate size of the lot.

Cool
