loading my mdl files in 3ds format.... (Read 611 times)

i want to load up some of the models of my aircraft for a project... but i cant remember how you do this
is there is special mdl to obj/3ds or something converter? i cant quite remember
if this is the wrong forum, if so, please just say and im sure a mod can move it when it needs to be
so yeh, cheers

You cannot load a compiled mdl file into a modelling program.
You need either the source file from the original builder, or create it yourself.

really?
ive seen lots of mdl converters and things. they were for half life 2 and dangerous sam (or something) and i only thought they didnt work becauese FS wasnt HL2
so is it a different mdl from the HL2 files?

Yes, a flightsim MDL is different from the Half-Life MDL.

darn, well thanks anyway... i guess ill try and find some aircraft or something on turbosquid and hope i can UV the texture to it

OR ... you could download one of the available source files from the FFDS gmax library and play around with it?

that is a further possibility.. but the only way i know of getting the file in an OBJ file (the sort of type i need) is with a MAX script and alot of copy and paste
