"Need for Speed, Most Wanted" (Read 448 times)

Hello everyone!
Haven't been here in a while due to immense quantities of schoolwork, but I thought I might ask y'all a question.

I recently bought Need for Speed most wanted as a bit of a joke (I've got my provisional licence and I thought it'd be fun to try out the cars I'm not allowed to drive!) but when I was installing it told me that I needed a higher version of DirectX...however when I downloaded DirectX 10 and tried again, the same message greeted me.

Now, I did a bit of investigation and came up with the following clues.

* My graphics card is an ATi Radeon X300/X550

*When I hit "Technical Support" it kindly informed me that it did not know whether my card was compatible

Is there any solution apart from buying/updating a new graphics card?

Your card is not DX10 compatible. Infact, it may not even be DX9 compatible (I'm not sure).
Download DX9, and if that doesn't work, try DX8. I'm not sure if the game will run in DX8 though, as it is quite new, so probably uses DX9 and above.

Like I said, I wasn't sure  Wink

Edit: Just checked on the ATi website, both the X300 and X550 are DX9 compatible.
Make sure you download the newest version on DX9 (can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0A9B6820-BFBB-4799-9908...)

You said you had DX10 at the moment, THAT WILL NOT WORK ON YOUR CARD. IT WILL NOT RECOGNIZE IT Wink  Uninstall it and replace with the DX9 version I gave you the link to.

Also, do you have XP or Vista, vista seems to have problems with some DX9 games (at least in my experience it does).

it seems all cards are DX9 compatible.  whether the hav specific features or not is the problem.  my GeForce 4 MX is DX9 compatible, but alas, i have no shaders, and no fancy technology, so simply, it isnt used...

...&&FS Water Configurator+ has new modifications in the works, plus DirectX 10, Service Pack&&1, and Radeon HD 3+ Series support.
