No, She didn't fly the 4 days we were there. They flew the other p-38, I have alot of shots of that.

Funny you should mention that... I have (cough) one good pic of that formation flight... and some video. And a memory that will never fade. Grin

That should make up for Mark posting pretty much the same static shots that I have... coming soon! Cheesy

Without a doubt the best looking fighter to come out of the US during WWII Cool

Oooh, I dunno... the P-51's pretty good....

It's by no means a bad-looking aircraft... quite the opposite.... but I like the P-51 more.

Of course you all know what I like the most... ozzy in particular... Grin

The first marks of the P-51 were crude and unlovable.

But once they got that teardrop canopy and the scoop slung under the fuselage...beautiful...and despite them being built initially for the RAF, they were American, albeit ending up with the all-encompassing British Merlin engine.

As for my favourite twin-engine fighter... the relatively little-known Westland Whirlwind tops my list, with the mossie a close second.

The Whirlwind had a lot of engine issues.
Personally for looks I'd have said the P-51B was my favourite of the 'Stang family. I saw one undergoing restoration at Duxford last Xmas and have to say the hi-back is a handsome beast... mind you I'm not a bubble canopy kinda guy!

Still, it looked fantastic.

I tend to think of engines as almost separate from the aircraft - if the engine is problematic, the aircraft itself doesn't have a problem, it's just being let down by the engine.

Conversely, if the engine works well, then it's kinda like a friendship between airplane and powerplant.

I never was a big fan of this type of fighter, it just looks weird with the fuselage disconnected from the tail... But I must admitt she looks pretty impressive, and she has quite the history....
