We had a suprise 75th Birthday Party for my Dad today. My Uncle brought his 1975 MGB that he is restoring to the party. This car was cool!! He also has a 1971 that he is restoring also.

Wire wheels and plastic bumpers Huh

How original is that??? Grin

Only kidding, it's a great looking car, and an excellent vintage Wink

I was always partial to the MGB GT V8 myself, must try to get a go in one of those one day Cool

Has anyone told your uncle that the steering wheels on the wrong side Tongue

How did it drive?

I think you'll find for the US market they had to have plastic bumpers fitted. Not sure about the wire-wheels but I think the look damn smart myself. Tell your uncle he is doing a great job Wink

Diving the car was sweet!!!! Cool

It handled rather well and it was in the same shape after I brought it back Kris!!
( My uncle is ex special forces from the Vietnam war and I would not do anything to upset him!! )

He still has a few things he wants to do to it but, it is in cherry condition!!

The chrome wire wheels are not the originals but, they look a whole lot nicer!!
It's a 4 cylinder but still has good pick up.

I will be asking him if I can use it one Sunday to cruise around the Upper Bucks County Pennsylvania area!!

I let him know you guys gave it a thumbs up!!

611 up that way would be a nice ride. I'm planning on going the River Road route and then over to Van Sant to finally take my Stearman ride!!

Heh, my dad had one of these back when he was in college. I do hope this one remains in much better condition. He had to stop every 100 miles or so and put a quart of oil in...

You should take it up 611 to the Water Gap. Bit of a long drive from Philly, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours, but some real nice scenery.

Thats nice, ive got a '77 mgb, maroon red. They are fun to drive, esspeccialy in the fall, with the top down.

Nice car!

I bought a brand new (maroon red) MGB back in 1976 and it is still my all time favorate car among all those that I have owned.
I paid $4200 for it which was a lot of money back then.

To say it was fun to drive is an understatement for shure!

If remember correctly.......

The "Plastic" bumpers (backed with steel) were required to meet new, US bumper barrier crash standards,
In addition, risers on the rear of the back leaf springs were nessary to raise the rear of the car to comply with US bumper hight requirements.

The new bumpers were actually a welcomed change from the nearly useless bumpers on most cars at that time.
Also, since they were unpainted they, could withstand some punishment before they becam unsightly unlike today's painted bumper utilizing the same basic type of constuction as was on the MGB.
