Hello all....

i´m a bit stumped... after exporting my 777 (which goes rather easily now...) i find it in FS to be about 20% bigger than what i modelled...

i´ve matched my fuselage´s length to a tape set to 63.7 meters (the proper length of the 777-200´s fuselage), but in FS the aicraft appears in such size that it´s length matches that of the 747-400! (i´ve compared it to the AI planes using slew)  Sad

now what??

the 3ds Max unit are set to 1 unit = 1 meter, which is in order for FS export right?

even if it weren´t... a 20%-ish diference in size doesn´t make much sense....

thanx in advance  Wink

I found a nifty little tool for similar situations as this that could possibly help.  It's an inflight measuring stick that will measure the exact size of any aircraft in FS.  Its made by AI Aardvark, but I can't find the actual place that I downloaded it from.

At any rate, if you can find this, simply go measure the exact size in FS and then do a little mathematical conversion to figure out the ratio you need to reduce the aircraft to in 3DS Max.  It won't be normal in the creation program, but it will come out right in the sim.

Gmax is like Windows.. sometimes it seems to have a mind of it's own  Tongue

Under  the  'Customize' tab, there are TWO items that need to be set.

1) is under preferences, the 'system unit scale'  (which is what I think you've mentioned)

2) is the 'Units Setup'  (a few lines above preferences).. it needs to be 'Metric'

If you've already modeled (obviously you have) without those set properly.. you might have to rescale everything.

What I did, was to start a new, empty scene with the proper settings, and then merged the original scene.. and at that point you can get the "tape" out and see just how much rescaling you'll need to do. (if any)

oh.. what a thing Shocked

in recent research i found that the 747-400 i had been comparing my 777-200 to in FS has 70,7m of length while my plane has 63.7........   for some reason, i thought the difference would be bigger... i figured the 777-2000 would be smaller.... Tongue

oh embarrassment of me... turns out the export size WAS accurate the whole time!  I was the one who was off a few meters......

i set up a tape in 3ds max with the same wingspn of the 747-400... to my utter surprise, it was almost a perfect match with that of the 777 and what hit me like a brick: THE EXACT SAME DIFFERENCE I´M GETTING IN FS!! Tongue.... that´s when i was streuck by the fact that the 777-200 is REALLY THAT BIG and the 777-300 is actually LONGER than the 747-400.....

i´m feeling very out of scale now Roll Eyes............. oh well... i guess that means my export rig is working Cheesy wehe!

lesson learned... the hard way, as usual Tongue
