Okay, I've heard the term "AFCAD" thrown around a bit here. In a nutshell, what exactly is it?? Is it a program? What does it do??

AFCAD is a program that will allow you to edit stock FS runways. You can also add ils to existing runways that should have it but do not. You CANNOT add buildings or hangers this is strictly a runway and taxiway editor and creator. Cool

Would someone who's not experienced in that field of tweaking be able to manage their way throughout the program? Where can I find the program?

And PARKING...don't forget parking. If you want any reasonable amount of AI traffic, especially
in FSX, you will need to add additional parking. AFCAD files are not 100% compatible with FSX
but there are utilities available that will overcome most of the compatibility issues.

Ok lets get off this AFCAD thing its really messing everyone up. It does not work with FSX. As stated above, afcad is an airport editor and was for FS9 , but somehow the name has stuck to airport bgl's and its confusing everyone. Ther are 2 programmes avaliable for editing aiport info, runways etc, that both look a lot more capable then afcad ever was. One already has a taxiway sign edior and excluder so you can add and remove taxi signs, and so much more. Read about them both here.

FSX planner neads the BGL file to be decompliled into xml first, read the notes, i believe that the other works direct with the BGL file.

Take a pick Both are still in development.

Well, AFCAD2 still works, but you need to decompile the created AFCADs and recompile them with FSX's Bglcomp.

A bit complicated, but it works.

Cheesy   I use AFCAD for creating my own airports in FS9, I also use Flattex as an excluder and for leveling out the terrian.  EZ Scenery(payware) for creating buildings and other scenery.  Unfortunately, while you can use AFCAD in some instances in FSX, I'm not sure about the program Flattex.  If I'm not mistaken, AFCAD is no longer in production but can still be downloaded.
