I'm going:
Massa
Raikonnen
Alonso

Massa is really on it for a good result after silverstone..

Side note/reminder, Murray walker is covering the GP for radio five live this weekend, if your sick of James allen then this will be welcome relief.

wow, I bet that accident hurt. The schumacher S claims its first victim.
I hope lewis is okay, but the ambulance looking like its carting him off isn't good. reminicent of Michaels crash at silverstone in 2000

The Ambulance is common sense for any high speed crash...

As for the similarities with Michael's crash, thankfully he'd just begun to turn in - a fraction of a second earlier he'd have been straight lining it over the gravel to the barrier... Huh

Unfortunatly he found the part of the barrier angled towards his direction. watching it again in slow-mo he was lucky the car didn't jump up a little later or he would have cleared the barrier.

Quite. A bit Kubica-esque. With the Canadian accident, the GP2 crash at Magny-Cours (which could have been fatal but for a matter of inches), and this, they'll need to take agood look at run offs, and their composition and physical relief/shape/profile...

There is always the idea of the oval style catch fences around the high speed areas of the track, not ideal for the head-on parts though. It'll just mean we're going to end up with more tilke style circuits with 5 mile concrete runoffs and the crowds at the corners being too far back to see any action even with the hubble telescope. Roll Eyes

P.S. Still sticking with your selection? Grin

I only heard about Lewis crashing out on the radio 'cos I was in my work van, I hope he's OK to race tomorrow. If he does race it will be good to see how he copes with starting in the midfield.  Cool

P.S. Murray on the radio was much better than Allen on the TV.

At least Hamilton should have 2 or 3 laps more fuel. If he makes a few places at the start (as normal) and takes a few places in the first stint - and Massa, Kimi and Alonso keep each other honest (maybe), or take each other out (preferable! Grin), then he has a decent chance of a podium finish. Mind you, I think he has anyway from 10th.

It's the first true indication of whether he's good in an f1 car or just being propelled by a good car. And if Massa can go last to 5th at silverstone, a track where theres no real passing places, then Lewis has pleanty of chances on this track.

His only real pass I can remember (not including off the line) has been heidfeld in france, and in that case nick didn't really defend the position. I know in gp2 he was able to do it, but this isn't gp2. Wink

Liuzzi was a bit lucky. Red flag should be interesting. Lewis hopefully can have a good start again...

What a start by Lewis though. 10th to 4th...

Mind you, I think they should just man-up put wets on and get one with it. So what if they're going really slow. Rain's a great leveller, so they can't just wait for it to stop.

Exactly. What a shame for JB though. He had a better start the Hamilton. Mind you, with the order as it is, if it dries out a bit than maybe Hamilton has a chance of a point or two

Button's pretty good in the rain... Tongue

Good to hear that Hamilton may not be a lap down... Smiley Definately a chance for points in that case - particularly as several of the "faster" cars in front of him are out...

Hope Winkelhock gets a good start. He's never done a proper one before. I wonder if thats a first - he's lead on his F1 debut, yet would never have done a standing start from the F1 grid, starting first in the pitlane, and then from a roller...

No it isn't. If it was wrong it wouldn't be in the rule book. Smiley

Cunning plan by McLaren - writing of Lewis' race by putting on slicks now means they know exactly when to put them on Alonso...

How much in life is fair? A rule is a rule, and if it's Hamilton or Sutil, then it can be applied.

If McLaren had any sense they've filled Hamilton up to the gunnels too... Smiley

could get even stranger. The race over ran the time limit by 6 minutes and 23 seconds. Alonso passed massa either just as the time expired or on the lap after the time expired. If it was just as then the results stand as far as 1-2 stand, if it was the lap after then there could be some controversy.

If that was the case, Hamilton would get a point too.

I don't think the time limit applies in the event of a red flag - otherwise you could, if the stoppage was a long one, only have a 1/2 or 1 hour long race. Brundle mentioned it during the restarted race, and I have the impression the "clock" was restarted from the restart.

The times on the BBC are elapsed from the original start at 1300BST as far as I can tell, as the race finished at about 1510BST.

Nope, the FIA rule book states that the clock will not be stopped during a red flag/ abandoned start situation. Alonso's final race time was 2.06:26.358
Thats the whole point of the 2 hour limit, in the event of a stoppage, your not racing till midnight if the delays stupidly long.
I dont think the differances in positions would be too differant, not sure why you think Hamilton would get a point? When did he pit?

Can't remember, but it was about the same time Alonso took the lead - they mentioned how long Hamilton was trying to stay out only 3 or 4 laps from the end.

The delay wasn't stupidly long either, so maybe discretion was used. The two hour limit also is there to stop ridiculously long (wet) races - If they'd had and hour or so delay today (I know, exceedingly unlikely), I doubt they'd have been happy, or the spectators been happy with a half hour race. As it turned out, the extra 6 minutes made it a bit more exciting.

I'm not 100% concerned, and quite frankley another thing against mclaren might have people starting to think theres a conspiracy against the team. Roll Eyes But if they are going to pursue the rules, they at least need to clarify the situation. If it is a case of letting it go the distance because of a small differance between the end of the two, then thats fine.

I spent the day at work, videotaped it and have just watched it from start to finish, after a silent journey home with no radio on... just in case the result was announced  Tongue

What a race! I now remember why I love F1 so much.

Lewis didn't deserve a point today, it was a bad call going on to slicks when he did, inexperience on his part, providing it WAS him who made the call...
Great race from Webber.. and Alonso, well, that's why he's champion 2 years running... any bets on a third?

Results up shortly.

equal to the least number of complete laps which exceed a distance of 305 km (Monaco 260km). However,
should two hours elapse before the scheduled race distance is completed, the leader will be shown the
chequered flag when he crosses the control line (the Line) at the end of the lap during which the two hour
period ended. However, should the race be suspended (see Article 41) the length of the suspension will be
added to this period.
I think that clears up the time thing for me, but its still a little confusing.

Massa coming second gave you 10 and Alonso finishing on the podium gave you 5 as you picked him to go 3rd. Smiley Wink

I kept hoping someone would cue up some cartoon sound effects/music while they were all sliding off the corner.

5.3 The distance of all races, from the start signal referred to in Article 38.11 to the chequered flag, shall be

To me, that says 2hrs plus 25 minutes - the length of the suspension - assuming the race was stopped about 1310BST, and restarted (behind SC) at 1335.

This would then mean the race would have to end at 1525BST. Now you mention this, it makes sense of what Martin Brundle said - they were talking about the two hour rule and Martin mentioned that they finish in about "X" minutes - about 15 minutes before they'd stop the race for time. The race finished about 1510 - 15 minutes before 1525, so this makes sense.

I bet when Hamilton pulled up to his grid position today, he looked around and said "Toyota has an F-1 team?"
