Well with my new camera (Canon Rebel XTi) soon to be purchased (within the next 2 weeks) I'm looking for a lens suitable for aviation photography.  I am hoping to get some suggestions on lenses from you guys and have seen a few I like but were around 1000. I am hoping for something a little cheaper at the moment but still around 300-400mm.  If you have any good used sites or some good new lenses to suggest I'd love to hear about it. Also if any of you have old lenses you don't use anymore perhaps we could work out a deal?

Looking forward to the suggestions that you guys may bring up.  Grin Wink

Well...not sure of your budget as you were talking around 1000....oh wait....in $s that isnt as much as £s...oh well

I have the XTi (400D) aswell and my current set up is with the Canon 75-300mm f4-5.6 USM MkIII lens....it costs £150 here....so about $300 in US....pretty good quality for the price....check out all my spamming in the photo forum for examples Wink

300mm is really all you need.....with 10MP you can crop the last bit Wink

PS.....saving up for the 100-400 f4.5 - 5.6 L IS USM Cheesy

ok cool!  Yea I'm used to my 5mp so cropping was out of the question, and have forgotten thats an option now lol.  Also seeing some of your photos I'm sure the 300mm should be just fine. And its well within my budget  Grin Cheesy

My only advise with that lens would be take lots of photos.....I find that as an aircraft flies past I need at least 5 images to get one that is perfect.....it goes soft very easily.....lol
