Man those look great...  Please tell me there's a VC?

Thanks!

Not yet, but there will be!  Smiley  I haven't even gotten to the rudders, elevators, speed brake, trim tabs, or flaps yet, and I'm thinking about adding a canopy visor (not sure if this is necessary yet) and a lift-assist system.

I've got the pre-hypersonic cruise checklist figured out, as to what systems need to be activated, and the startup checklist figured out.  I'm making one that I want to fly, with all the gimmicks that I think this plane has, so it's going to take a little longer than expected.  But I think it'll be worth it!

It'll be cool, can bet I'll try it out.  You said a week earlier, but with the added stuff, you still think so?

Nah, more like a month for the complete basic package, which includes the VC and realistic flight dynamics.  I'm hoping that within two months all the bugs are worked out, and she's polished to a nice sheen, with effects and sound included.  I was hoping for one week to get it roughed in to FSX, aliasing a 737, but real life just keeps nagging me  Angry, so now I'm hoping for next week.

Theoretically speaking, the plane doesn't use an air spike, so it's going to have the same conical shock wave that all the other supersonic planes have, so I figure it would be as any other.  The PDE is supposed to sound much different than the normal turbofan, as their isn't a fan, just some sort of complicated valving system.  And of course detonation sounds different than deflagration, too.  I'm still not sure as to make the scramjet an afterburner effect that engages at full throttle, or if it should be a separate component.

There's plenty of issues to still be resolved!  And that's partially why the model is taking longer to make, too.  Such as the gear, trying to get it into a realistic spot.  Can't have the gear housing in the middle of the scramjet!  It would be easier if there was more than one picture to go by, but that's ok still, this is a sci-fi plane, after all....   Wink

As far as im aware a Scram jet only works once above a minimum speed as it has no moving parts and just uses the preasure of the incomeing Air to burn the fuel.  I think that there is a moving air intake to controle the internal preassur of the engine and a Injector for the fuel and thats it.

iv found some more info that might be usefull for you.
Ramjets http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramjet
Scramjets http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scramjet

The only Diferance i can see (from a super quick read) Is that the air flow in the Scram Jet engine combustor is supersonic. And in a Ramjet it is subsonic.

I read something once about scramjets running on hydrogen fuel - is this true?

Apparently that causes problems because a huge volume of hydrogen is needed to keep the engine running for a reasonable time (aka more than 7 seconds) Grin

I think this is the problem they (they being NSA/SS?) ran into when the program was 'canceled' in 98 or 99.  I read somewhere it was costing (theoretically, of course) about $1 billion per flight.  I think they solved this problem with methane fuel and plasma ignition, reinstating the program in '04.

In terms of actual proof, NOT just speculation, the Aurora doesn't exist at all, and never will exist.

However, that doesn't stop people from speculating how it could exist and work.

Personally, I doubt they'd bother with an Aircraft. The SR-71 was the perfect plane for the reconnaissance job, but they replaced it with Satellites, as they're more cost effective. Why spend all this money on Satellite's if we're just going to design a plane such as the Aurora? Just to hide the fact that the Aurora program exists? That's quite a waste of money.

I think he meant news on the project to create an 'Aurora' for FS - which this thread is now all about...

I'm curious too... has it stalled or are you still going on it?

Whatever the answer is, it looks like it'll make a stunning add-on to the world of FS!!

Unfortunately, it has stalled.  When I had to leave it, the gear was complete and animated and the rudders were animated.  I was in the process of roughing in the VC.

I'll hopefully be able to return to it in about 6 months.

You need to post a preview in our design forum, those look very promising.

Good work!,

Cheers,
