To quote Banksy, (what a guy...)
"I want to be a non-conformist, just like everybody else'
& yah, its just a phase. I know we have some 'emos' on here, so i wont say what i really think, but they will grow out of it
Some 'emo' music is ok though, like Fall Out Boy's first album ..., some of it on the other hand...yuck
Gotta love 'take this to your grave'. Their best album.

as a so called 'emo' (tabbed by my mates for the bands i like and the way i dress) its just the way i am, i never thought to my self today i'm going to be emo for a 8 months, then for 4 months i'l become a grungey. i personaly enjoy the 'emo and screamo' genre of music bands such as funeral for a friend, my chemical romance, enter shikari, saosin and others but i do also listen to other stuff like club mixes and a little bit of RnB....
those people who go around being depressed and pretending not to give a f**k about their life are just pathetic and that attitude was around way before 'emo' culture became a fad. its just adopted another name.
just my 2 cents
john... listening Funeral for a Friend -Roses for the dead
Just to say we're sorry,
For the black eyes and bleeding lips.
And it's hard to forget
How many lies we've told.
Or how old we'd grow,
Before I said goodbye.
So let's scrape our knees on the playground.
It's not your fault,
You feel okay.
It's too late in the day.
It's not your fault,
You feel betrayed.
You can't come out to play.
I never listened to a word you never said.
I never listened to a word you never said.
Wasting the hours now,
We're all suckers for tragedies.
And start this over again,
And you bring us to our knees.
As sunrise comes,
And the story will sell,
A few hundred papers,
So we'll follow you up.
It's not your fault,
You feel okay.
It's too late in the day.
It's not your fault,
You feel betrayed.
You can't come out to play.
I never listened to a word you never said.
I never listened to a word you never said.
So raise your hands up high,
And let this rain pour on.
So raise your hands up high,
And wash us away.
Like innocence and childbirth,
You look just like your mother
And you look just like your father.
Forgive him our father,
Your son is smiling,
So lay roses around you.
I like funeral for a friend aswell, but does that make me emo?

Every participant of a non-conforming culture (this applies to all non-comforming cultures) must first conform to the various constructs that identifies the non-conforming culture. This is necessary in order to be accepted as a member of that non-conforming culture.
....to be identified as a non-conformist, conformity is imperative!

What i can't stand is (and this coming from a metal fan) these kids dressed in black with stuff like red and white striped sleeves, wearing more make up than a Geisha and with enough piercings to make a metal detector ring louder than a 727 full throttle.
Don't mind what people listen to if they keep it to themselves. If you're smart enough to see whats a good attitude and what isnt, then you're gonna be fine. If you're not so smart, then natural selection will have it's way with you. So i dont mind trends as long as noone tries to impose them on me.
Cheers
-edit-
Just to say, i voted Aye cos i think "emos" should be able to enjoy their music just as much as anyone else. And I agree with whoever said that some behaviours were in society way before anyone came up with the emo concept (like self mutilation, non conformity, depression, which are now mistakenly taken as "emo").

i enjoy the music i listen to, and i dress the way i want, all that self harm crap can jog on its just stupid, im still called an 'emo' by my mates and its on a music base more than anything. but it doesnt phase me at all seeing as its the music i enjoy
i have nothing againast people enjoying what they like if its RnB, rock n roll, heavy metal, super duper ub33 heavy metal or trance or what ever for that matter, its all a matter of opinion. just some people are more idiotic that others and will call poeple an emo, or rocker in a derogotory sense because they dont like the stuff they do... a man around 60/7- years ago was into that sort of thing and he ended up burning in a ditch gor his honeymoon...hmm romantic

Amen to that!
I dont really mind the emo thing. But it really shows how its become the "cool" thing to do, as the only real emo I know is completely over-the-top with everything. She cuts herself, wears those stripey things, always on about how her life sucks, etc, and I dont think I've ever seen her without a smile on her face.

You sound like a whiny emo. That was MY opinion based on observation! I suppose I struck too close to home for your comfort.

no not at all, im not in any way a self appointed emo, or do i think to myself looky at me im aweseome emo, i just get called emo because i listen to bands like
funeral for a friend
i killed the prom queen
coheed and cambria
jimmy eat world
the list goes on
but as i said before, it is just renaming old "trends" although its more social grouping than trends, because all the old grunge kids are now basicly emo, its basicly the same thing new title...
and, seriously, get your own opinion, your opinion is no way based on your own observations, more than likely you read it in your wifes heat magazine or whatever
