Operation Bolero II?

Glacier Girl is now in Maine, and they will hopefully depart to Goose Bay between 1500-1600 today after they scrubbed the flight due to weather yesterday.

You can track it in real time here:

http://bolero.flightexplorer.com/default.aspx?115023

and you can follow along, write messages to the pilots, and keep up with delays etc...here:

http://www.airshowbuzz.com/index.php

Awesome thing too witness Wink

I wasn't following it before but I am now.
Hopefully I'll get to see her but I can't make Duxfords Flying Ledgends airshow.

I looked around and was shocked no one has posted about this, or if they did I didn't see it.

I knew about it, just didn't think to post it. Hoping to see her at Duxford, but it all comes down to how things work out.

Ed Shipley the pilot of the P51 is running a little contests, anyone who can predict her wheels down at Goose Bay exactly will get a phone call from the cockpit of Miss Velma on the third leg of the trip!

Weather is not in their favor today they are currently flying off course it appears trying to dodge it.

They are still in Goosebay due to weather issues, and also needing to replace a coolant pump on the Mustang.

The should be departing this morning, this is going to be a stressful flight, they will be going a direct flight from Goosebay to Greenland, all over ocean about 700NM I believe.
Because of the delays they cut one planned leg off the flight. So needless to say the weather has to be about perfect for them to do this.
I will be watching the tracking with sweaty palms  Grin

Sadly Glacier Girl's attempt has been ended due to a coolant problem Cry

MISSION UPDATE:

We'll post a video update as soon as we can but here's the unfortunate situation.

Glacier Girl's attempt to complete her mission has ended for now. She will remain in Goose Bay while Miss Velma continues on to England. The human spirit's magnificent ability to press forward serves the team well now. Everyone, here and around the world, are disappointed Glacier Girl will remain behind, but Miss Velma carries her spirit across the North Atlantic to England. The "bell" is now safely stowed in Miss Velma and will ring when she lands in Duxford.

We're re-programming the tracking because this adventure certainly hasn't ended. It will be re-programmed for the Mustang and be up tomorrow.

Such a shame, but the mustang will still make it

It does suck, and I am thinking that it is more than a coolant leak, at least something that can't be fixed in a couple days time. I would think a coolant leak is something easy to fix so I am waiting word what it is, maybe a cracked engine??
But the crew is still holding on to the mission, the real reason for the whole thing was not just to get G.G. to Duxford but instead as a tribute to the men and women who have served and are serving. And that is why the mission carries on with the P51.

Hopefully soon G.G will finish her mission but if you ask me some things are not meant to be and I think this is one of them, that damn aircraft does not want to return to Greenland Wink
