The first sentence of the article amuses me.  It refers to two groups of people:  Those who can afford these planes and those who pretend they can afford these planes.  LOL!!!!

Seeing as the article says that the buyer is not American or European, my money goes on a member of one of the royal families from an OPEC member.

Bingo!  In order to engage into conspicuous consumption at that level, you have to be king of an oil rich nation.  Your money came by someone else with the ability discovering oil under your land, then teaching your subjects how to get at it.  Because you're royalty of these oil rich nations, the riches came easy.  The Bill Gates and Warren Buffets of the world earned their wealth, you'll not see them tooling around the skies in personal 747s or A380s.   Roll Eyes

Hey, I'm just going by precedent. I remember seeing something on the history channel awhile ago about similar things, and many of the owners of said objects were princes of Arab nations. For example, a silver car, yes, elemental silver, as in Ag, not stainless steel, and not electroplated either... Or how about a palace that puts the Versailles and Schloss Sanssouci combined to shame?

He's not the first, and I certaintly dont expect him to be the last.  Highly impractical.  Id love to see someone turn a C-17 into a private jet.  Fly to virtually anywhere  with the STOL capabilities.

Hey, wait til I get my hands on an Antonov An-225 (pictures of 124 coming as soon as I find my camera lol). I will take out the APU...and replace it with a tap...that sprays out beer, from a HUGE tank located inside the plane.

When I went to see the Airbus factory at Blagnac, the tour guide said it was a Saudi prince.

That saudi guy is getting the first one... the rest will probably follow.

UAE one is already certain too but will most likely be a second hand one (of Emirates as they want the larger version)

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here
