I've been flying the F/A-18 created by Daisuke Yamamoto in FSX (with what are I think all the relevant updates), but I can't get any afterburner effects.  I've also flown the FSX F/A-18 by Eric Buchman and Garry Smith and it has a great afterburner.  Is it possible to change the Yamamoto config to include the Buchman effect?  I've looked over the lights section of the airplane config (where I think the effect is controlled) and they are identical.   How can I make the change, if it can be done?

Thanks.

Usually effects like that are modelled in, not "added"  by a setting in a config file.

Felix,

Thanks for the reply.

I should have made clear that the two planes are essentially the same, both modeled on the Yamamoto FS9 design.  As my question probably makes clear I don't know a whole lot about how people design planes, but the only changes in the aircraft config other than the paints are:

Yamamoto FSX                      Buchman

wing_span=40.0                    43.5
wing_pos_apex_lon=0.0         -.9
Wing_pos_apex_vert=0.0       -1.5

spoiler_extension_time=0.65   2.0

static_thrust=1750.0               23500

max_bank=25.0                     30

The Buchman variation also has some lines on flight tuning (e.g., elevator_effectiveness and pitch_stability) that the Yamamoto FSX doesn't have.

Can any of these lines account for why I can't get the afterburner effect?  Once again, both refer to the same effect (fx_flame2_mid) in exactly the same way.

So, I'm still wondering how to get the afterburner effect to work in the Buchman variation.  Could it be as simple as changing the values in the config file?

it could... i´m not the one to ask on this, but from what i´ve fiddled with them CFGs, i noted that effects of this sort are usually defined in the lights section...

i´m not an expert on THAT tho... i think maybe Martyn (Microlight) would know better... he did the .cfg for the 737 experience...
