Forest Fire Season Reminder (Read 257 times)

Here is a friendly reminder for all us Canadian Aviators and Visiting Aviators to Canada.  Smiley
I am sure our good neighbours to the South have similar regulations from their FAA.   Wink

Forest fire season is once again upon us, and each year there are aircraft violating the airspace in and around forest fires.  This includes private, commercial and military aircraft.   Section 601.15 of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) provides that no unauthorized person shall operate an aircraft over a forest fire area, or over any area that is located within 5 NM of one, at an altitude of less than 3000 ft AGL.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

So Doug, how many forest fires keep you from flying every year?

Hi Jayhawk Jake

Well this year the strip has been so soft I can't use it right now but we do have several forest fires burning in Northern Ontario right now.

Several years ago I was heading up North when we had to detour several hours around a forest fire but I keep a watchful check and replan my trips if I have to.

I have seen a good many forest and bush fires up close and you want to give them a lot of respect and distance believe me.  They look awesome up close, just like a good thunderstorm, but believe me they can do the unexpected so fast that you can be in danger very quickly.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
