US congress is rumoured to be discussing the possibility of placing a single SR-71 back into service. I'm not sure if this is true...

i don't really see the point, with all the satellites and what not, all maned recon planes have become obsolete. N Roll Eyes

Satellites are great, but contrary to popular belief, they are not a quick as the ones in "24". The they take time to position and also still have problems seeing through clouds. An aircraft moves where the pilot wants it to go instantly and a panning TV camera will never replace the speed and clarity of the human eye.

And the Mig-25 had nothing to do with the SR-71's retirement. What did happen was the Soviets got wind that the US was developing the XB70-Valkerye, and it was they who got spooked. They developed the Mig-25 as a result.

They forgot to put intake ramps in the engines... MiG-31 has them and isnt that much slower.

Main reasons why the MiG-25 didnt function well

Those guys in Syria in the 1970s still had the 'peacetime' gauge backings in place when they went to war.

Its an interceptor, not a frontline fighter. It may be more freeze resistant but the rest is just as fragile as the usual US / european stuff.

Its export quality... Mideast export quality. Only thing they share with the domestic ones is the basic airframe. the rest is ranging in quality from mediocre to pure crap.

The reason why the USAF bought those MiG-29s from Moldova (domestic version with bomb racks) is that the germans wanted theirs (also domestic spec) back, and anything else available was not the quality they wanted.

No. The US wanted the Moldovan MiG-29s becuase they had a nuclear capability and didn't want Iran to get them...but now Iran has MiG-29UBs. Angry

And to what Björn said yes the IAF/IDF could not keep up with them in Phantoms and Kfirs. Not Daggers. The Dagger is an export Kfir that the Argentinians bought.

F-14 will be missed the most of all my planes second would have to be the p-51. I never have saw a p-51 fly but I have saw many on the ground.

The P-3C Orion. There used to be a airbase nearby, so they flow over the house and basicly anywhere i went on the surrounding area. Loved there sound and how they looked. They have been sold to the germans and hungarians though and they closed the base...

Meh they were practically given away and not to the hungarians but to the Portugese Cheesy

I'm with you on this one! I really miss them to! I was at the base during the disbandment of the Squadron's It's awfully funny to hear a lot of elderly veterans swear and curse Cheesy
