2 June 1940 Germans penetrate beaches of Dunkirk

...

During the day the Dunkirk perimeter, now manned entirely by French forces, is largely driven in but the Germans still cannot penetrate to the town. The beach area is only two miles long after this advance, however.

Both before dawn and after dark the evacuation continues, with 26,256 men being taken off, including the last British unit to leave. Just before midnight the evacuation dies to a trickle. There are still plenty of ships but the French troops have not been given proper orders about where to go and which piers are in use.

Many more have gone to earth in and around town and will take no further part in military operations.

Can you imagine this. You are living in the East Coast and you are listening to your radio every day for news from Europe and you hear that the British Army is trap in the Nothrn East coast of France and is trying to escape and not surrender to Nazis forces. You also hear that not only is the Royal Navy is involveld but also British citizens with whatever naval vassels they can use in helping in the evacuation  to safe their Army so they will able to fight another day.

You hear how the Geman traffe and Bomb their boats and they had to avoid not only the Luftwaffe but the E-bouts and the mines. You hear about the great arial battles between the RAF and Luftwaffe in trying to defend the fleet and boy you must get excited and sad at the same time. I know I would have!

Thank God we will probably never see or hear about a event like this again!

Just remember in the Exotic Far East tentions was also tension brewing between the European powers and the USA with Japan. If you where in living in Shangai and you where a westerner is was time to leave the city before things got hot.

Russia was not looking to friendly either since it had invaded Palond and Finland a year before. Things where looking pretty gloomy for Western Democracy at that momment in history.

The most exiting momments in World war two for me was betwen 1937 and Mach 1943. Yes I did say 1937 and not 1939. July 1937 is when Japan invaded China and there was already a war between the extreme left and rigth in the Spanish Civil war.
