I really fancy setting up my own airline. As i tend to fly around my home territory ( the scottish highlands) The biggest planes I use are the atr42 and teh fokker 100, the rest of the time it's teh king air, cessna etc.

Anyone any pointers in doing this.
Also how would I paint my planes??

Paint your planes as you wish. Take real airlines' paintjobs as templates for your planes.

1. First of all I suggest you should find someone who can build you a website, or do it you'rself
2. Find someone to paint you'r aircraft, or do it you'rself.
3. Make you'r own Multiplayer server or use someone else.
4. Make or use someones Teamspeak server.

Thats what I did.

Hello there,

I have a 24/7 game & teamspeak server you could host your va on, if your interested please email me at :

jamielong91@aol.co.uk

Also you could benefit from automated PIREP system i also know where you could get this from if you were willing to pay a small amount.

I felt this was a possibly worthy thread to bump up, as I, too, am considering and wondering how to set up a virtual airline.

I have seen several bits of advice here and there, and all of them are good to be certain.  But, I have yet to see something that I would describe as comprehensive.  This may be because the questions being asked are not specific enough.  Or, perhaps the subject itself - virtual airlines - is so large and amorphous as to defy easy discussion.

Well, here are some of my questions that I hope generate some productive discussion on the subject:

1) Is their an "official" way to go about setting up a virtual airline?

2) Is there an "official" (or broadly recognized), cooperative, collaborative, and comprehensive group that provides oversight to virtual airlines?

3) Is there a definitive FAQ about virtual airlines and setting one up?

4) Is there anything approximating an "official" name and livery registry for virtual airlines?

5) Is there a specific charter one would use for setting up a virutal airline?

6) Is there a list of normal activities undertaken by a virtual airline?

7) Does anyone know of successful virtual airlines (that is, those that maintain a stable level of active participation and cohesive structure)?

8) Are Skype Yahoo! IM and/or Ventrilo suitable substitutes to Teamspeak? (Skype has recently given me very, very poor customer service, and are therefore now on my s***-list until they make amends.)

9) What are some of the top utilities used by virtual airlines to enhance their operations?

10) How does one normally measure the success or failure of a virtual airline?

Thanks for you assitance! ~Darrin

Hi everyone.

I recently set up my own VA, i would say for those of you who are thinking of setting up a VA, how much do you want to spend?

Alot of VA's are on paid hosts with their own domains, they get good search engine rankings and have a more pro feel to them, i set mine up on a free host to start with and as  and when the membership grows i will consider in investing in a paid host and own domain, paid teamspeak server and all the little tweaks.

i use the VAFS PIREP system, its free, simple to use. there are other systems that require PHP knowledge and MySQL knowledge that you can get for free.

When setting up your own VA, think about what aircraft your going to fly, where are you going to fly to, where are your hubs going to be based, are you going to offer freight or pasenger routes or both?

I decided to take the idea of catering for new pilots starting out in the VA community, where they can gain alot of hours, also as a good place for experienced pilots to retire.

i think above all the VA is going to be what you and your pilots make it, as long as its a fun and friendly place, people are going to join.

Hi all ive just started a va and its on a free host free domain name and its brilliant it has its own fleet. All tested and aproved and team speak etc is one of the last things to do the easiest thing for someone starting one is to join www.vafinancials.com. Saved me a lot of work and money so far I have not sent a penny of my money on it and it can compete wiht most I think (www.sunshineva.tk) all its missing is a lot of pilots.
