awsome. what sort of things would you need to make the cockpit react to your planes' movements?

Its pretty cheap to make one... The total cost will be 1000 euro (assuming you already have PC and monitor)!!!

I made this thing at home with no special tools except an electric drill and an jigsaw! All parts are bolted toggether.

I need to add on it my homemade rudder pedals yet and a enclosure canopy!

Cheers, Thanos

Thanos,

We'd love to see more on this.  We'd love it if you would please upload some pictures here on the SimV server (see the rules for pictures on the upload page) so that maybe some others could gain some ideas for their own work from your experiences?  Thanks.

best,

Sorry, but I have no much free time to upload all these photos here or make plans. I already have them posted on my forum: www.motionflightsim.eu.tp

All the parts are readily available, I just combined them in a working way!

Cheers, Thanos

Ya know, I've pondered the JoyRider for years now.  I just never thought it could actually work.  (I was convinced enough that I didn't drop the cash for the plans!)

But now...now I have to wonder if the general principle of this pit could be modded to work with other non-fighter aircraft.  A 737, for instance.

Major league HMMMMM....

After major tuning my servo code and rearrangement of the side motor mount, I took another couple of video of it moving fast like hell. I need to install a new racing bucket seat with six-point belts before I'll attempt to ride it again with the new tuning. Now it works with 50% more speed than before and the reaction time is also reduced down by 50%.

I integrated some g-forces and enviromental effects into the motion so now it just follows the swing of the plane during turbulence. And as if that wasn't enouph I did some crash tests to see how hitting the ground in various angles affects the cockpit's motion.

You may noticed on the 54second position of the video on the cessna, I impulsively extend my hand to catch the rail because my mind was really believed that I was going to fall off the side even if the logic part knows that the cockpit is restricted from flipping over. You can't think of the immersion it creates... With an enclosure canopy will be really scary!!!

Thanos,

There seems to be some "delay" or "lag" between the visual horizon on the monitor and the physical tipping of the pit.

Are you reading aircraft attitude out of the simulator via FSUIPC data, or are you reading the posituion of the joystick?

Its not moved directly by the joystick...

I'm using Keith's Portdrvr ( http://www.etherealsounds.com/ )  that retrieves all flight data needed and after some math they sended on the serial port, where a microcontroller translate them on servo positions. Be noticed that the refresh rate of Portdrvr is 45ms way too faster than
the 300ms that FSUIPC updates...

There in no real lag as way you think of. It does not use the real angle of the aircraft but calculates and sends forces. The lag you may notice on some cases are from the proportional servo code I'm using to protect the motors from breaking apart by doing some ramping on start-stop of the motion. But its okay and produces no motion sickness so far.

No it cannot. Not in large travel...

But I can mix the z heave data on the pitch motion to introduce some up down vibration!  Wink
