I'd like to diversify a bit after playing with FS9 and FSX for quite sometime now. Can anyone recommend a good modern jet combat game (no strategy type please). I've got Lock-On but I don't like it. I have CFS1,2 & 3 but they're somewhat obsolete.

Wings over Europe.

1980s style air combat. Not that complex, but still good fun.

What don't you like about Lock-On?

My current favorite is Falcon 4.0 Allied Force.  It's about twice as complex as Lock-On so if systems complexity is what you don't like about Lock-On then look elsewhere!  But if Lock-On isn't complex enough for you then F4.0AF will meet your needs.

If you want less complexity but still want realism then look to a time when air-warefare was less complex.  WWII.  I'm not a fan of the Microsoft CFS series.  Try IL2.  Amazing game.

I'm not looking for more complexity. In fact my favorite combat games was CFS1. CFS2 as well as CFS3 both stunk. Guns in CFS3 sounded like pop guns. I wish they would come up with a jet version of CFS1. I prefer to just get into the aircraft, take off and get into a fight, aerial or ground whatever.

Yeah, F4.0AF is NOT the game for you, and I can see why you're not happy with Lock-On.  If you liked CFS1 then you may like IL2, although it's WWII, not jet-age.  You won't have problems with the plane feeling like it's got "pop guns".  Heck, fly the Stuka sometime.  When your tail gunner starts filling the sky with lead the whole cockpit lights up with muzzle flash like you're in a twisted disco-tech!
