Hi all, (Yeah I know some of you may have seen this pic elsewhere already but I want more feedback, please...)

Yup, I want you all to rip every possible aspect of this pic; don't hold back; If it sucks tell me why...
Practicing my hand at photoreal editing and starting to like it much...

Compression murdered so click image for higher resolution shot:

Original

...

I quite like the outcome, and it seems everytime I look at it and the longer I look at it is the more I like it...

So.... fire away!

P.S.: Tried my own method on the heat blur so if it looks weird, excuse me! Tongue

Alright, I like the composition, very cool plane and angle... too much light in the picture though, looks flat, and 2d. No shadows. Also, the background could be anywhere and to improve it then it could look more clearly 'Russian' ie a cold background environment, or something. People fairly or unfairly associate cold and grey with Russia  Smiley

Hope this helps a little!

Looking at the bigger one, first thing I notice is that the picture looks very... flat.

The heat blur effect isn't the greatest either. The edges of it stick out a LOT, reducing the effect of it overall.

One last personal nit-pick with it, although you had no control over it, is how the buildings are floating on the river  Roll Eyes Tongue

Anyways, it's a nice pic but does not have that 'wow' that makes a great pic.  There isn't really anything about it that makes you go  Shocked as soon as you see it.  It is really hard to get that, and I can't even really do it, but for a screenshot to be deemed amazing it needs that punch.

Like I said when you posted it before...you need to blur the edges of the blur...if that makes sense Tongue.  Otherwise it looks really fake.

It's a great concept, but I agree it looks kind of 2D...not really sure why though  Undecided.

first of, the plane stands out like a big sore thumb. i can see how you tried to make it look photo realistic by useing sharpen. if you sharpen to much it does nothing but degrade the edges of the pic! in this case the plane. im not sure if you did a composite here as it looks as if everything has been sharpened.

i would recomend starting again. get your back ground (no aircraft just scenery or a photo if you want)
get a nice angle on a plane on a cloudless sky! so its easy to cut out.

paste the aircraft onto the background, sharpen it a LITTLE! as this can help but to much and the edges will start to glow and look crappy!

once the aircraft is on the background, play around with levels on BOTH layers, also playing with brightness and contrast can help a bit!

as for shadows, i have never realy tried them, but ive got a brief idea on how to do it, and i will attempt it once my exams are out the way for the week (wensday) so i will try and get a tut up by sat if my idea works.

thats all for now

cheers

Thanks for the comments guys...

Please note I'm not about to get defensive on my shot, just explaining the errors I made and I am listening to everything said here...

About the shot being a bit 2-D and lacking shadows, I had set the time to be near mid-day, so that I guess was the cause of that major set-back... thanks.... next time a bit later or earlier for some better shadows...

Krigl; I had thought about choosing a wintery background with suitable camo on the Sukhoi but I guess I was just too lazy to go change it once I had the shot set up... Tongue...

The edges of the heat blur were softened a bit, guess not enough, will use a wider gradient blur next time to do the trick... thanks...

And lastly it wasnt a composite, but yes everything was sharpened... I do try to be very conservative on sharpening as it can ruin a very good pic; quite true.... I guess the level to which one does it is a matter of taste... O and contrast and saturation enhancement were the major edits to that shot...

and yes.... I can spell pIEces!!! Tongue Cheesy Grin Wink

Thanks again!!!

Avoid showing scenery fckups...

Get a decent Moscow scenery that gives the major buildings and so on
