I just started using the file access tool FileMon to help me debug some speed issues with FS2004.  In the screenie below, note that in #1 the program is looking for a specific gauge file....and reporting "Not Found".  In #2 it looks for it in another location.  Still "Not Found".  So it finally looks in a thrid location (Gauges FOlder) and finally finds it.  Lots of tries there to find the gauge file.

First of all...... WHY is it looking for a GAUGE in the root Microsoftgames directory FIRST, before even looking in the panel area or the gauges folder?

I see this same pattern with a number of gauges in my primary aircraft (BAe 146-200).

Would I speed things up by moving the location of all the gauge files that exhibit this property....... or is this "normal" for gauges that are located in the "Gauges" folder instead of with the specific aircraft?

...

Appreciate any help.

best,

...........john
