At least it was quick, and he was able to go doing what he loved.  I know the same feeling your talking about Peanut.  Back when I was in high school, my aerospace teacher, and a very good friend of mine, used to be an aerospace engineer at Edwards AFB working on the F-15, and one of the pilots in the program was Rick Husband, the commander on Columbia, so my teacher was really proud and was amazed that he knew then Space Shuttle Commander that was in orbit at that very moment.  Then Columbia broke-up on re-entry, and the loss of the crew really hit home with my teacher and the class.  That story and the today's events really show how many people these people touch, and why it's such a loss.  Again, my condolences to the family and friends of the pilot and anyone else affected by the crash.
