I was wondering if it would be possible to substitute default AI aircraft for downloaded ones.
I don't cherrish the idea of downloading more programmes and reading and re-reading tutorials because that type of pursuit really isn't my strong suit.

Can anyone tell me if there's a file that I could edit that would replace, for example, the default 734 with an add-on 738?

I'd really like to spice up my AI aircraft a little in this way, so I hope someone can offer a bit of advice.

Hi Julian. Yes, this is indeed possible & is the way I got started editing AI traffic in FS2002. You will need TTools202 HERE

Use it to decompile the traffic database (Traffic030528.bgl in FS9). It's easy enough to use. Then edit the Aircraft030528.txt file it produces in Notepad replacing the default aircraft with a similar type you have installed. (Use the Aircraft.cfg title= name for the aircraft.) When you've finished editing, exit Notepad saving changes & recompile the database in TTools. That's all there is to it. Full detailed instructions are included. I suggest doing it in easy stages in case anything goes wrong.  Some aircraft work better as AI Traffic than others.

I'm assuming this is for FS2002/4. Not sure it will work for FSX.

Many thanks for your quick reply and for the great advice! Yes, it is FS9 that I'm using.
So, I'll download that and give it a go.

Many thanks!

It was surprisingly easy too!
