25 Years Ago Today...
One of the greatest heavy metal guitarists to ever
live was tragically killed in an airplane accident.

RANDY RHOADS
1956-1982

...

Accident Report
http://home.flash.net/~ulknatme/accinc.htm

For many of us who are a bit older and grew up listening to the heavier stuff back in the day, Randy Rhoads had a technique, a style and a sound that was something that many of today's guitarists can still not even come close to. He was a brilliant musician who studied classical music but was able to blend the extreme heavy guitar sounds and his unique riffs into an amazing blend of musical notes peppered with a classical foundation! When he was on tour, he would look up local classical guitar teachers and spend his time learning as much as he could. I got to see Randy Rhoads a year before he was killed and to this day, can still hear the sounds emanating from his Les Paul and ""Flying V"guitars.

...

25 years ago today Randy was killed when the Ozzy tour bus stopped over for the night in Florida. It had a private airstrip and Randy had gone up with the bus driver who also had a PPL. How the accident happened is still uncertain but it seems the pilot was trying to "buzz" the tour bus and scare the other band members. Tragically the wing clipped the bus and the pilot, Randy and the bands hairdresser Rachael Youngblood were killed.

...

Today, Randy's mother, family members and many of his devoted fans, will make the pilgrimage to Randy's final resting place at Mountain View Cemetery in San Bernardino, California. Here is where they will pay their respects to this amazing musician who's life was tragically cut short 25 years ago today.

RIP

If he were alive today, I believe, he would be recognized as the best guitarist of all time . . . He is currently recongized as one of the greats and he only lived to the age of 25!

Not convinced that he was one of the greatest? I suggest you all listen to the guitar solo he did on "Suicide Solution" . . . The man starts playing Mozart on the electric guitar!!

Nice post, sad loss for everyone.  You've gotten me interested, someday soon I'll get a couple of CD's, hard to believe, but even tho I'm a late 60's rocker and also great Sabbath & Ozzy fan I've actually never heard Randy Rhoads.  That will soon change.

Thanks for a good post.  Always important to remember those great rockers that have passed on.

You have to listen to this!
16 year old Chelsea Constable!

She was at the Randy Rhoads 25th Memorial Anniversary.
She is on the left holding the original Randy Rhoads bow ties Randy wore when in Quiet Riot!
The woman on the right is the one who formed the Quiet Riot Fan Club.

The entire thread with all the pics from the memorial are here.

She is in many with the family.
It may take some time to load the page as there are allot of shots.

A sad anniversary... he was f*ckin' awesome, and what a stupid thing to happen...  Cry

I always appreciated his use of classical stuff in his playing, but he also just plain rocked that guitar.
