As I said, looking at that I realize I have come close a few times but avoided such a fate by going around.
I don't know about everyone else, but all of my primary instructors drilled that into my head (that it's smarter than trying to salvage a bounce or any crappy approach)... and they were all fond of yelling "go around!" unexpectedly, even if my approach was perfect... excellent practice. Grin

BTW, just this morning I al....most... went around on my second approach: I was trying to drop it in steep and short, and it being an SP in good condition, as I cleared the fence it just said:
"No... sorry...I think I'd like to float for awhile; you got one knot too fast;  nyah nyah...pull back to slow down, and I'll balloon like crazy...go ahead- try to push my nose down, maybe that'll work...dumbass..."
Ever get mad at an airplane?  Roll Eyes Cheesy

But I had plenty of runway, so I just slipped it for a moment (yes! With full flaps!! Gasp!!!   Grin ), and she settled right down. Landed longer than I'd wanted, but still with plenty of runway left, and a short rollout.

But for a second there, I was so close to going around...had there been any appreciable wind, I probably would have... although with a good breeze, I wouldn't have come in long... LOL...

I swear.. sometimes it takes me a minute or two to stop laughing at your posts..  lol (literally)

Our instructors say it.. we say it to others.. we hear it a thousand times; but sometimes, during that bounce (or balloon) something takes over and.. well  THIS happens..

GO AROUND ! Noboby will remember the botched approach, but they WILL remember a broken airplane.

C152s are more... obedient. Grin
The SP and I are are warming up to each other, though... during that first flight in calm air, I could really feel how powerful and well-rigged she is... a real pleasure to fly. And she learned a few things about me... Grin

I wish I knew how 152's behave..lol..   I'd love to have them as an option when it's just me, flying up to Urbana for lunch... but *sigh*  I can't fit into one (6'3"  225#  (extra long legs))

It's a funny old do....

But you need to see some of these disasters every now and again to remind yourself that modern aeroplanes are made out of thin aluminium cooking foil...and not much else....to realise just how fragile they are... Shocked...!

....although some of the older ones are made out of tubes, sheets of bed linen, lengths of string......and held together with dope... Roll Eyes...!

The most important thing to remember about the Skyhawk's little sister is that when you reduce power, it comes down. immediately. Glides safely and all that, but it just won't float. Also perfect for "dive bomber"-style steep approaches: full flaps, power out, and point it at the numbers. You'll pretty much reach the point of flare at just the right speed. Very useful if the fan stops... I only learned fairly recently how easy it is to dump 20 degrees of flaps abeam the numbers, pull the power out, and drop and turn for a nice landing. Works quite well, because with everything hanging out, it just doesn't want to go anywhere except down.

  I wonder if you ever really tried to fit in one... I've flown in them with instructors who were pretty gangly. they hated it, but seemed to manage OK.
   I often wonder if anyone has tried to make a mod that will allow the seat to go back a little more... that would probably do the trick.
Or heck- most old 150-series Cessnas have seat backs that go all the way back (often without warning)... maybe you could just fly it that way, with your legs straight out. Find one with only lap belts, and you won't feel like you're being reckless. Wink

As far as weight goes, yeah, at +200lbs you'd  want to go alone and pack a light lunch. But do pack a lunch- it will take you some time to get where you're going... LOL!

I enjoy them; I really should renew my renter's currency in the two trusty-if-crusty 152s at MSFS... sometimes it's just more fun bumping around in one of the "little guys". I may even maintain that once I join the club... they don't have any 150s. Maybe I can convince them to buy an Aerobat... Grin

It's geometry, although a reclined seat might help... I literally can't get my 37" inseamed knees to not (forcefully) contact the yoke when my feet are near the pedals.

We had a Tomahawk and a Skipper that were joys to toss around. And like you described, no floating... power off with flaps down and DOWN is where they go...

I came across this the day after it happened at my local Airfield EGBS Shobdon....>>>>

The remains of the aircraft were shovelled up by a Farm Tractor with a scoop mounted in front, and emptied into the back of a lorry... Shocked...!

....just a pile of wood and bits of canvas.... Cry...!
