Best WWII Sim there is.
But don't buy the cheap combo pack found in most stores, get the IL2 Sturmovik 1946 edition that contains all the patched and upgrades they released.

That's a matter of taste. Some people rave over it, others don't. I bought it and it didn't ring my bell. Then I bought Pacific Fighters and ended up uninstalling it after a few months. CFS2 has long legs to me, it's an older product than Pacific Fighters, but it's still on my HD and IL2 and PF aren't.

This is where most people get disappointed with it, you need to have a merged install to reap the benefits of it. IL2 or PF by itself is no good. That is why I recommend if your going to try it get the 1946 release, it contains the whole series (patches and all).
If you just get IL2 then you have a huge pile of patches and updates you must install, on top of IL2/Forgotten Battles/PF all merged and that is just to fly online, so save the hassle and spend a extra $10 and buy the new release don't buy the original IL2!!

One thing I didn't like was essential key bindings for just getting the plane in the air weren't set nor were they documented. You had to stumble upon that on your own.

I quite agree - I've somehow ended up getting each of them from the original IL2 up to the 1946 version available now.

I recently bought the 1946 version. It looks good, plenty of action. One question though; where is the manual? I can't find anything of it. I explored both dvd's but nothing. Only a few large list of aircraft specs and settings. Any idea where to find it?

Nope. Nothing. Not even the smallest list with which key to push to change view or whatever.

That was exactly my issue. I had to discover through much trial and error that I had to do essential key bindings just to get the plane in the air.

For 45 Euro you could expect some kind of manual or whatever. Oh well, I'll see what I can do with it. It'll probably end up in a drawer of my desk.

That's what happened with me. I bought il-2 and Pacific Fighters, and it didn't take long for both both software titles to end up on the shelf. However, I saw the 1946 title at the store and was tempted to give it another try.
