If it makes you guys any more happy, I have just posted the shots of the airshow over at my website [click on my sig for the site]. Just go to the "screenshot" page and then select the "simv airshow march '07" link. There are 15 shots in total; some of the shots might make you chuckle. Cheesy

Maybe it's the name "Air Show" which is confusing... Roll Eyes...?

Most of my recollections of Airshows involves static displays, on the ground, of interesting aircraft, with an occasional air display (Red Arrows?) to entertain the public.

I cannot remember witnessing an aerobatic display of a Concorde/Boeing 747/Douglas DC-3/etc, etc aircraft, overhead of a couple of hundred terrified spectators... Shocked... Shocked... Shocked...!

Perhaps an "Aerial Display" might be a better description for the occasional demonstration of young/old Pilot's skills in the air, with various suitable! aircraft...Wink...?

Paul...G-BPLF.... Cool...!

Note the difference:

Airshow.
Air Display.
Fly-in.

I don't quite know what airshows you go to, but most airshows are predominantly flying displays. Only some like Farnborough and RIAT have huge static displays, others just have a few aircraft on the ground. In fs a static disply would be rather boring so I think there is no problem with calling this an airshow...

I think what he's saying, is that at a real airshow you don't see aircraft whizzing over the crowd at very low level so it really can't be classed as such. It might be a laugh in the sim, but it's not realistic at something being called an airshow.

There you go....Wink....!

10/10!

The most accurate explanation I can think of, regarding "Airshow" activity....
...and what I actually observe at "Airshows"...

Particularly regarding the safety of the Public at such events under FAA/CAA rules.

Paul....G-BPLF... Cool...!

Sim V Aerial Events...."As real as it gets?"..... Roll Eyes...?

I know this is none of my business but surely the whole point of Flight Simulator is to have a bit of fun. A fantasy world where you can do whatever you like without being restricted by ever more petty & stringent rules & regulations.

Maybe not now but this brings back fond memories of the air shows I went to back in the good ol' days. Sadly those days are long gone. If the display line gets any further away the spectators will need binoculars to see them.

I have no problem with flying over the crowd, or even aerobatics with unusual aircraft (like the DC-3... *cough*). What annoys me is that too many choose aircraft that are so fast and small that it's difficult to tell what they're doing.

I'm talking out of school here, only attended one show so far... but that was my impression. More organized and serious than I'd expected (LOL), but still a bit haphazard... some of the displays were impressive in concept, but I couldn't tell you if I was impressed... they might as well have been performing in clouds. Grin
But it's all just for fun, so it's not a big deal.

It would be tremendous to have a "proper" display, following RL rules and keeping things within real-life limits... but it ain't likely gonna happen.

I am always aware, and impressed, by the fact that the Show/Display organisers attempt to do their very best to make participants and visitors observe certain, very sensible rules to make the show go smoothly....
...but every now and again these rules are forgotten/ignored, and without a FAA/CAA observer being present, "things" very quickly go pear-shaped...and they often do... Wink...!

One participant's display aircraft flew straight through the line of watching visitors, with wheels at an altitude of 6 inches AGL.... Shocked...!

...and I bet he kept his Pilots Licence... Roll Eyes....?

Which is half the reason why we try to set a crowdline!

I use the hat switch to pan around in the VC when watching displays. If an F/A-18 flies in at 600 knots straight over the crowd, I've got no chance with keeping up with it!

Not only is the crowdline set for realism, but also for ease of viewing. It helps when people stay on the opposite side of the runway, unless they're perhaps recovering for a top side pass or something similar.

LOL... I was talking about the "virtual" airshow here...
Been to several RL airshows and never saw anything as whacky as you describe... never a good idea to go over the crowd.  "Over here" in recent years, they are fairly conservative , if anything. I've seen several routines aborted due to wind, etc.

Never seen an accident- which is good, 'cuz I'm not one of those who goes to airshows to see the crashes... Grin
