had a long overnight last night, went out to the airport to resume my schedule at 4:00 this afternoon, and i notice 2 saabs sitting on the ramp. Normally, there is only one. they were both diversions. DFW winds were straight across the runways above the company imposed limitations. so now we just sit and wait to see what happens. Our 4:55 departure time is now proposed off at 8PM
wonder if they will still make us do the overnight tonight? or will our overnight leg cancel?
and if it does end up going, will they give us more than the standard 15 minutes of extra rest in the morning?
we were scheduled in for tonights overnight at about 7:45pm out tomorrow morning around 5:30 but if we dont even get back into DFW tonight until after 9:00 then we wouldnt get into the overnight tonight until about 11:25pm... with a 20 minute van ride to the hotel we are looking at close to 11:45-midnightish tonight when we finally get to the hotel... and then we have the early wakeup call? yikes... will be interesting to see what they do with us tonight.
my schedule for march is pretty sweet for a change
i will have the first week off (going to a bachelor party in New Orleans) then i have my wifes birthday, then a wedding, then my birthday, then a trip to the beach for all you can eat seafood!
cant wait to get this week over with and get to march!

Speaking of gusty days, I took my stage 1 check on Friday. When I took off, the wind was 17012G17. Nothing to bad, but not ideal for the first stage check. So, we go out to the practice area, and he has me do some slow flight, a power off stall, and an emergency approach. Then, he tells me, "let's turn back to the airport and do some touch and go's." So I turn back to the northwest and tune in the AWOS and what are the winds now, 16019G31! Just my luck that the worst winds I've flown in to date had to happen when I was doing my first stage check. So, needless to say, my landings were a little shaky, but I passed none the less.

wind sure does ad a challenge.... guess the money has to be earned sometimes
and on the rest.. we finally got out at around 8pm and received nothing over the legal minimum for overnight rest... and today was an all day affair - im bushed, thankfully tomorrow is just 3 quick turns then its back to the house!
but - its fun!!
the WX in DFW yesterday went straight across the 18-36 and 17-35 runways often in excess of 50 knots. all the parallels were pretty much closed down, they had to land 31L/R. traffic load stays the same, but we go from having 6 runways in use down to 2. doesnt happen very often, but it does happen. ATC reaches its limit and then says - no more traffic into DFW until this situation changes. The wind then kicked up a dust storm which reduced the visibility to about a mile or so. so the extreme crosswinds are now only made worse by the fact that guys have to do an ILS approach in an extreme crosswind while maneuvering in low vis in blowing dust!
Glad i was still on the overnight while all that was going on!
